I looked up video game award ceremonies and the first thing that popped up was the Spike VGAs. I KNOW that they're more acceptable and classy award ceremonies that represent our industry with purpose and respect. My choice is for the BAFTA vg awards to take off ( because how many of you actually watched it).

I'm sorry to be this guy, but these gaming awards are pretty much advertisements. And its also corrupt.
The people who give out the awards have no interest in gaming. Let someone who is famous and who is involved in gaming, like Nathan Fillion, even if I don't like the guy. And the awards themselves are just so arbitrary and worse, in some cases it feels like the award is made to fit the title.

Are you just thinking of Spike's god-awful VGAs? There are video game awards that probably are televisied, but they don't have the popularity of Spike's VGAs. Some of the awards shows are presented by and voted by the people in the industry. I'm more than sure that they have interest in gaming.

Seeing as how I think the Oscars and similar award ceremonies are completely pointless and stupid, no, I don't think we need an awards ceremony for gaming, or any form of media, for that matter.

That said, if something less terrible were to replace the Spike VGAs, I would be quite happy.

Yes I am referring to The Spike VGA awards. I am not aware of any of the other ceremonies due to I lead a sheltered life in the corner of the globe. Where I am currently freezing my nipples off, can you courier me a pair of mittens?

By "that guy" do you mean the one who perfectly just described what the VGAs are. They are just horrible representation of the industry; they take crappy D list celebs and act like they give a crap about our medium whilst they promote UFC and Monster or whatever chemically imbalancing shit they push. Yes I can say I do watch them but only ever for the gaming announcement/trailers.

How to fix this?

Well just off the top of my head do this. Just have Tim Schaffer and like Adam Sessler hosting, make it a formal thing, have the black mages there as a orchestra, Peter Molyneux, Kojima, Miyamota, etc. as guests. Have voting done by the lead designers of all the big producers. Hold a honorary award for an industry icon like Richard Garriot or someone similar. BOOM a good gaming awards show

EDIT: Also do not let G4 touch it at all, let Sci-fi or something handle it.

I think having developers recognized for their work at Child's Play could be a good idea even if its not a full award's show. Child's Play is already one of the industry's greatest events of the year.

In the UK we have the video game BAFTAs. I don't know how much people outside the UK care about the BAFTAs but its the biggest awards we have over here. I watched it last year or the year before streamed and it was pretty good. I've only ever heard about VGA's nd they never sound good
