It's official name is Virtual Motion Sickness. This happens most commonly when playing fast paced first person perspective games. CoD, Halo, Mirror's Edge, etc etc.
There's a liquid in your inner ear that is used to register movement. In fact, without it you wouldn't be able to keep your balance standing up. When this sense of motion conflicts with what the eyes are seeing, for some people, it results in nausea. Most people have it to some degree which the military found out the hard way during early attempts to use 3D technology as a way to train soldiers. Most of whom became anywhere from nauseous to vomiting.
I can't play certain games at all. Mostly first person shooters. Some seemingly random games set it off too. My first case was playing Mario 64 way back when. I had no idea what was happening, but I was having a lot of fun and kept playing anyway. The first and only time it got so bad that I threw up.
