For the poll's sake, FFX and FFXII were really ok. But Shadow of the Colossus and MGS (particularly 3) are just so far above and beyond.
I'll try and say this rationally (as I already made the "OMG YOU HAXXOR n00b FAG" joke on another thread), where is the Halo soundtrack? Seriously whether you liked the games or not... gotta love the music. So yeah, Halo is the unofficial winner of the 'not on the list' party. Also present, Bioshock and Mass Effect and Gears of War 2 and Portal.
As for what's on the list I'd go with Half Life 2. It sounds nice, especially the action sequences. Really puts a rush of adrenaline into you.

I adore all the Final Fantasy soundtracks: Nobou Uematsu is my favorite composer of all time. But my favorite soundtrack would is easily Chrono Trigger. Yasunori Mitsuda really did that one well: factor in the countless remixes and arrangements since, and it just makes it even better.
I didn't get the Half life score being epic at all.
I like the Final Fantasy VIII/IX/X soundtracks (personally I found 7 to be weak at best, and beyond annoying at worst), and perhaps the best scores are the Metal Gear Solid ones, and Halo 3. Even if you don't like the game the score is really what set it apart from other FPS games for me, it's very cinematic.

Final fantasy generally has good sound tracks, I would have to disagree with FF7 having weak at best, but when they weren't good, they were annoying.
A lot of the FF6/3 music was really good, in an orchestral sense (just saw someone already said that, whoops).

you should have had a "other" option in the poll. most of those have one or two good songs in the entire bunch. i personnaly feel that Castlevania games have some of the best music ever to grace any console they've been on. even HORRIBLE games have had a very awesome soundtrack. doesn't matter if they are on a handheld or whatever. SOTN, Portrait of Ruin, Lament of Innocence, and Circle of the Moon are my top four games in this category AS WELL as overall.
The only music I actually go out of my way for is Halo 3, the other game music just seems negligible.

I'll be changing up the poll a bit. Since there have been quite the replies about popular favorites, I'll be adding the most stated on the list. I apologize for the inconsistency, but I didn't realize so many were fans of some games I've never even played! LOL
what about jet set radio and no more heroes? those 2 games probably have the best music I've heard in a game
