Okay, so I have this idea for the Escapist Video competition, and though I'm obviously not going to go into detail, it's based around the warhammer Table-top games, and I wanted to get a bit of a census (if that's the right word) about how many people on the escapist think it would be a suitable topic.
Please vote and comment.

yeah why not, are you going to do like a stop motion thing or what?

though it would be nice if you gave more details

Yeah, I guess. Mostly I just wanted to see what the escapist thought of the games themselves and whether the level of interest available would make submitting the video pointless or point-ful? eh.

anyway, my unfounded fear of plagiarism aside, the plan is to make a stop-motion sketch-show using various models owned by myself and a few friends. At least, at the moment the plan is a sketch-show, I might end up creating an over-arching storyline, as there are two armies with whom it is easiest to generate humour. Orks, and the Imperial Guard. One for being stupid, absolutely crap at shooting and generally obssessed with killing not only everything else in the galaxy but each other as well, and the other for being Orks.

Hopefully that helps.

T'sall in the details. It can either be awesome or a complete flop depending on how you do it ^^

sounds alright the only problems are:
1. The quality of the painting, people want to see the detail of the models not shapeless blobs of colour.
2.Making sure that the story can appeal to most people, you cant assume that everyone will have played WH40K and know the backstory. One idea might be using the blurb thing from the front of the black library books in the first episode to set the background then going from there.

anyaw it sounds cool and i would really like to see it, so Good Luck!

Good points;
1, the painting - I'm not exactly 'Eavy Metal standard, but I like to think I take enough care with my characters that they'd hold up. They're not formless blobs at least.

2, the blurb thing - The backstory was the main thing I was worried about, but using the blurb could offset that nicely, thanks for the idea... muahahahah!! sorry

Remember what happened to Damnatus. Check your country's copyright laws.
As long as no-one has to pay to watch it, then from what I understand of UK copyright law, It'll be hunkydory.

Also, if those people who're voting no would be kind enough to provide a reason for their dismissal of my idea, I'd be grateful.

Damnatus was also "non-commercial," and I believe the UK and Germany hold similar copyright laws.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see some cool stuff from another Warhammer fan. Just be careful about it.

Well, there are a few concerns that pop into my mind off the bat.

1). Firstly, how much of the background of the respective universes do you know? As a Warhammer nut, especially an addict of the background, I know there will be some on this site who will tear you a new one if you fumble too much. Also, have you decided whether it's going to be 40k, fantasy, or a mix of both? I'll just mention right now, avoid the LotR range like the plague; they are super-copywrighted, and aren't worth the problems that they'll entail.

2). Would this be a comedy, or a drama? Personally, I'd look at Red Vs. Blue for inspiration, as that series has staying power.

With Space Marines instead?
That'd be cool.

Maybe. I love 40k and painting miniatures is absolute escape for me. On the flipside, I find most HARDCORE 40k players and fans I've had the displeasure of meeting nearly drove me to insanity with how serious they take the lore. I also find, in general, the only thing funny about their sense of humor is how bad it is. So i guess the lesson is: don't try to be funny.

I think he's just asking if WH is appropriate for this site, not the idea specifically.

Personally I think it falls neatly enough under gaming, after all there are tabletop rpg columnists so I don't see why not. Some videos are only tangentally related to gaming anyway, such as Unskippable, and some not at all, such as Escape to the movies.

Irishdelinquent:
1) I'm fairly well up on most of the lore. The current stuff anyway. Squats and Chaos Dwarves etc I'm a bit lost on, but I'm confident in my knowledge. If there's a storyline, then it'll just be 40k, because (as I metnioned) Orks and IG seem the easiest to get comedy out of, and they can play off each other. If I use more of a sketch-show style, then It'll be a mix of 40k and WFB. Thanks for the warning, but to be honest, it never even occurred to me to use the LotR stuff. Partly because I've never played it, and partly because getting comedy out of something like LotR would be like tapdancing in a minefield... (Extreme caution necessary)
2) Comedy was the plan, and though I hadn't thought about it, RvB is probably a good source of inspiration if I decide it needs a story, thanks.

AC10:
I've been on the recieving end of some pretty bad Warhammer humour myself, mostly as a result of the same moderately funny joke being stretched WAAAAY too far.

lostcause:
That's exactly what this poll was about, and thanks for the vote of confidence. I think I probably will submit it now, well once I've finished it anyway
