i am liking dow, but to be fair, i only like the campaing, i tryed a skirmish and i found it too overwhelming, perhaps i still have the "age of empires" mindset but it was absolutelly caotic to try and win one of those, and i never understood halve of what i was doing

Fantasy version (Warhammer) is my prefereed, although 40k is fun... but I basically said recource counts? they I played took pity on me and said unlimited. I then rolled over him with massive freaking tank thingies (Blitzkrieg anyone?). After figuring out a couple strategems that my local bunch of nerds (of which I am a proud member) couldn't beat... got a bit bored.

Its good, but I play DnD now(never looking back neither!). Not a single person who has ever actually DM'd will say that its not fun (me being more of a DMer than a player, although playing is fun too).

That said...

Are you sure? Cos looking around me at the empty pepsi max cans and empty pizza boxes, sitting in front of a dual screen home computer it sure LOOKS like we're 40,000 years in the future in an age of constant war! Duh, obviously not a game, what are you retarded?

Seriously, try telling its die-hard fans it's a game, and they will bury you under so much 'history' you'll cut your dick off just to relieve the boredom.

You play vidya-games don't you? You complain about vidya-games don't you? WHY, THEY'RE ONLY GAMES!!! (how do i flip someone off in text?)

All i want is a little realism (scaling-wise) in my futuristic gaming, is that too much to ask? W40k Epic had the right idea...
The Warcraft universe has a hell of a lot of story behind it, as does most of the games i play.... but at the end of the day, thay are games. The story just makes u feel as if ur part of it more then anything.

Oh ontop of that... U want realism.. HAve u heard the fluff about the Heavy bolters? each round is a armour pericing rocket propelled granade.. yer cuase thats 'Realisum'

Excellent point, and well made. I guess I stand corrected...

PEOPLE, can I have your attention please? Apparently, we aren't allowed to improve games to make them more fun. That is all.

Table games seems fun, but never got into it. Games on the other hand are just amazing ( minus Dawn of War 2 )

If there is one universe I could have a crush on it would be the Warhammer 40k one. So well written and aesthetically intrigueing.

At the minute my interests lie more within the Fantasy side of Warhammer, currently building up my first Fantasy army (Dwarfs). To me, 40K has got a bit stale, yeah in the grim darkness of the 41st millenium there is only war... That's about it.

With Fantasy you get a real feel for the cultures outside of just killing each other.

(Although DOW/WA/DC were bloody awesome games)

The books and stories are really enjoyable, although the language used is definitely not at the same level as Harry Potter, Dan Brown and other authors
As a literature student, I died a little inside at that statement.

The biggest problem with tactics in W40k is the lack of them. Usually each side has a pre-set configuration for countering a specific enemy, wether it's a choppa, dakka, more numerous, more elite, mechanized etc army. Then the only thing that actually matters is having a lot of luck with your dice rolls.
Of course, the tactics of army building come out of this at tournaments, because although your chosen side has specific configurations for handling any number of different threats, you can't have all of them at once. This is the same for all points limited tabletop figure games, you could theoretically build an army to handle anything, but that will usually get stomped by armies it is not built to handle, building an army to be reasonably resilient against anything is the skill (I know someone who is very good at this, but then he worked at Workshop for 18 years or so and wrote some of the WFB 7th edition army books, so he damn well should be).

I played and liked DoW 1 & 2 and I also play the tabletop game from time to time. I mostly like the modeling/painting aspect of the tabletop game though.

I don't know much, if anything about literature, but I can see a difference in writing levels between these and other novels/books. Think yourself lucky I didn't compare the writing talent to the Twilight saga...yeah, think about that for a minute.

BTW, I didn't just say that so you'd die some more.....really.

I have to say False Gods, by Graham McNeil is very different to Horus Rising and in the first few chapters it kind of flies all over the place, then you realise what the authors doing and you can follow it again. This all being said, these books are still enjoyable enough so I can't put the damned things down until I'm practically asleep!

I wasn't really talking about the Black Library books, more that you hold up Dan Brown as a literary figure to aspire to.

I've never played the tabletop (although I do own a few painted miniatures), but I'm a very big fan of W40k. I mostly got into this universe via the novels of the Black Library, of which I have over 60 by now, and the collection is growing. Call them unimaginative all you want, but I love Space Marines and the like... my most recent purchase is a monster of a book called the Liber Chaotica, so as you can see I'm really into the whole background lore.
Oh yeah, and the DoW games (well, all except Soulstorm, of course) are among my favorites. I'm one of the folks who liked DoW2, and I'm really stoked for Chaos Rising! (Probably won't get to play it until April, though -.-)
Liber chaotica? Is that the one with allot of hand written notes in it?

I love pretty much everything 40k.

Let's just say I love it the same way I love an Arnold movie.

Yeah, it is. It's a collection of lore about the four Chaos gods and Chaos Undivided, collected and edited by a fictional priest and interspersed with tons of notes and scribbles (it is suggested the guy's mind gradually frays the longer he deals with Chaos lore); the whole thing is written from the perspective of the Warhammer Fantasy setting, but there's 40k stuff in there as well, in the form of dreams and visions of the future.
