And I know that they are of 2 different genres but in this case I am willing to play anything Warhammer no matter what the genre and provided it offers a good single player experiance. And of course I am waiting for them on the upcoming Winter Steam Sale because I want all the extra content. Do the DLC gets discounted aswell?

Regarding Dawn of War 2:

I have only played Dawn of War 1 and while I liked it, there are crippling flaws that makes it dated (the AI pathfinding is the more egregious problem) so I am wondering if Dawn of War 2 is much more polished despite the fact it removed Base Building.

Regarding Vermintide:

Well its basically Left 4 Dead but in the Warhamemr Fantasy Setting and instead of Zombies its the Skaven. How is the Single Player experiance?

So which game will give me more bang for my buck?

I'd say Vermintide, personally. Its not that I've anything against DoW2, but Vermintide is just such a more polished game and extremely fun. I've only had the chance to play it on free weekends but those free weekends sold me on the game, whenever I've the cash and its on sale again (which thankfully I've got a $50 steam card loaded and ready for sales time).
DoW2 is definitely an improvement over the first but I just can't play it for any stretch of time, whereas I could see myself playing Vermintide more often.

If your looking for single player then don't bother with Vermintide, its not worth it if you aren't going to play multiplayer, the AI is useless on any difficulty above easy, and the levels aren't diverse enough to make it fun to play them more than once if you aren't playing on high enough difficulty to grind out the good weapons and equipment. The game is at its best when your with a group with microphones coordinating, its also fun with pickup groups, but the single player is pointless outside of learning the levels you you can memorize where items are.

DoW 2 is kind of the opposite, although its more that the Multiplayer is just dead rather than unfun, not really anyone plays DoW 2 online anymore. If you get all the expansions there is a lot of single player content. The lack of base building is generally made up for by the fact that your units have a lot of abilities, as well as collecting equipment, so it sort of has an RPG vibe to it. It is more polished than DoW 1 on many fronts, but it is a very different RTS than what most people are used to, and hinges on its singleplayer rather than any multiplayer elements.

If you have two or three friends to play with, Vermintide is a solid choice. There's no real single-player content, though. It's basically a melee-focussed Left 4 Dead. The combat is great; there's lots of stabbing and dodging and careful use of shields and weak points. When you're playing on the harder difficulties with a good group, it gets really intense.

But I'd probably say to get Dawn of War 2. It's a major improvement over the first game, and there's a lot more content - a full single-player camapign with two expansions, as well as a co-op survival mode called Last Stand. The game itself is on a much smaller scale, and the mechanics were reworked to put much more emphasis on mobility and careful positioning; games are won with capture points, with lots of falling back and maneouvring around to get an advantage. Heavy weapons are dramatically more powerful, but fire in limited arcs. There's also destructible cover; late-game tanks and walkers are guaranteed to smash apart the scenery as a match progresses in a really satisfying way. This can actually be strategic, as your tank can bash a hole in a wall to let your infantry through.

The hero units have also been much improved; there's a talent tree of sorts, and the abilities themselves dramatically change how you can play the game. The single-player is almost RPG-like; the focus is on controlling your squad of veterans, who can be customized and equipped with all kinds of different weapons. And then there's the Last Stand mode, which is a co-op survival mode with a cast of customizable hero units. It's really fun. Overall, the game is much more polished and involved than the first one.

So I'd say Dawn of War 2. Incidentally, have you considered Space Marine? It's quite a solid single-player game.

Rented it one time, played it, fun with decent cutscenes but woefully repetitive.

Have you played Mordheim: City of the Danmed? It's a tactical-RPG set in the Warhammer universe where you can play as a small band from the Sisters of Sigmar, the Mercenaries from the Empire, the Skaven, or the Cult of the Possessed.

Seen it, and eh it kinda looks boring.

I've played a fair amount of Vermintide. It's very good, it's essentially L4D but with a more melee focus and as was mentioned, the setting. I really like the setting and while I am on-board with the "progression" parts of the game, I f*****g hate the loot system and any RNG loot system like it. They've made additions that gives *some* control to the player (salvage unwanted items, re-roll this or that, combine items and questing that I haven't tried) but it's still based fundamentally on a system I don't like.

The gameplay itself is good. There is a good variety of maps which have different aesthetics and objective challenges. There are some hard parts and the special units disrupt play with regularity. If you play online or better yet, with friends, it's even better tho it can be played with bots in lieu of humans. The only issue there is that bots can't carry or interact with things so objectives are all down to players to accomplish.

I haven't played DoW2 but the franchise is a popular RTS and I'm sure is very good. If you fancy strategic gameplay and learning different units and tactics, I don't doubt it would be a good buy. I do like Vermintide, tho I do feel it has some minor issues. Excepting them however, you can fire it up and have some skaven stabby shooty fun.

Not much more to add...Vermintide is a great game...if you have 3 friends on teamspeak. Singleplayer isn't worth it, the bots are utter fucking idiots. It looks lovely. I wish you could go through the levels without enemies so you could enjoy the scenery.

Single player DoW2 is pretty sweet. It's like a cross between RPG and uh...real time tactical battle. As you progress, the missions can get a bit samey, just get your guys and roll up the map, killing everyone you meet, although you do have a wide choice of wargear loadouts, heroes, abilities, angle of attack, type of squads etc so while what you're doing is basically the same there's actually a lot of ways to do it. Chaos rising is just as good. Retribution falls a bit behind in that it gives each race a watered down campaign that feels like a cross between the way multiplayer armies work and the standard single player campaign.

You can get multiplayer games if you play Elite mod, which has just released ver 2.6. As with a lot of Warhammer things there's a small dedicated community with a steam group and homepage. I actually far prefer DoW2 to 1 now, the multiplayer actually keeps me interested but DoW original feels kinda stale.

Elite mod homepage:

2 channels doing commentated recasts of Elite mod, should give you an idea of multiplayer

Overall I'd go for DoW2, you can usually pick up all of them for a song on steam sale and there's more content overall for the price unless you have those aforementioned friends.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I would say go with dawn of war 2. There is a ton of content for it at this point. Whicl I enjoyed vermintide, it didn't keep me going like daw2 did. I put over 200 hours into the single and last stand modes.

Keep in mind though. Space Hulk Deathwing comes out in like 2 days and on the surface its got some vermintide feel going for it so you might want to keep an eye on that.

If you're playing just for the sp i'd go with DoW2 tbh, assuming you're getting all of dow2 and not just retribution, you're in for some rather meaty campaigns. If it's only retribution you're getting, then campaign isn't so good BUT you can pick your race.

As for DoW2 path finding and such.. It's better if only because there's less units involved but imo a TRUE relic game (so not like the upcoming dawn of war 3 which is being made a new dev team who might wear the relic name but have never actually worked on a relic game and it shows because they don't have the relic touch or any understanding of what made relic different) always feels clunkier then other rts because you don't have precise control over every little thing and your units ain't mindless automatons who just stand there (best emphasized with company of heroes series) if you don't give them an order and they get attacked.

Tbh though my vote for sp would go to mordheim but you stated you feel it looks boring so never mind.

One game i'd be curious about to is Man O War, but that's still in early access.
And then there's the new space hulk which came out which is pretty much like vermintide only for 40k, will see how that turns out.
