i've been wondering lately if desktops are dying. Steam is keeping PC gaming and i suppose that by and large means there are still quite a lot of us desk bound but i was wondering amongst the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii etc. comunities if you still have a box in a corner? Or have you gone for the convinience of the laptop?

If you have a desktop and don't game on it why? Do you like the layout, or the is there some other reason you havn't gone portable?

Laptop, I like having something I can just pop in my bag and wander about with. Though for serious number crunching I've got my desktop. 2 actually, the university provides me one to run simulations on. Even if they did have the audacity to not have any programs installed on it, and not get IT support to do it when I asked, it's still pretty decent.

A laptop. I would have cringed at the thought last year but I've gotten used to typing on this thing.

A laptop. I had to use all my Christmas money for this baby. >.>

I would get a desktop, but my bedroom is tiny. I can barely fit in it right now, nevermind putting a desk in. xD

Besides, this way I can watch TV while I'm browsing webcomics and stuff.

Laptop, for two reasons--it's the only thing I could schlep with me on the plane when I moved overseas, and nowhere I've lived since then has had enough space for me to set up a proper desktop system.

Desktop, I think it was movie bob who said that the next generation will be all using tablets and find it hard to comprehend the fact we used desks for computers, but I love desktops it just makes it feel somewhat important/professional.

laptop, just a little cheapy I got to browse the internet, do schoolwork, and hook to my big screen to watch Hulu from my couch. I also like that I can port it anywhere around my house.

The traditional desktop probably is dying a slow painful death.

The only time I actually sit at a desk in front of a computer is to play high end games on it. There is also a file server (which I rarely touch directly), and an HTPC in the house. The HTPC is the one I mostly use, with a wireless keyboard and mouse of course. With the recent upgrade of the HTPC I mostly use it to game as well of late. The slightly lower resolution isn't a bother at all when you game on a 50 inch LED LCD TV. It's currently more powerful(ish - faster processor, more ram) than my dedicated gaming machine (which also has parts on order).

It was a desktop for me, until I had to move. Now I use the boyfriend's laptop.

I just got a new laptop for my birthday a few days ago so I use that all the time. I also use my phone from time to time but I prefer my laptop :p

My desktop is my main games/photography/video rig. I use a netbook for most of my internet usage and some light gaming. I also have a docking laptop that belongs to the newspaper I work for. At the moment I'm on the work computer, but then again, I'm at work.

The only thing bad about my desktop is that my computer room gets very hot and stays hot in Summer. Last night it was 31 degrees Celsius at one in the morning (88 deg F by my reckoning).
