For me, gaming is about the content of the game. It's all about what the game has to offer me as a source of fun and fascination, not a show of skill or - god forbid - achievements.
Well that's not entirely accurate - My WoW character has achievements, but most - if not all - are for the corresponding reward. Rusted Proto-Drake, for example.
Actually that's a good example - content. And most of WoW's content is raid isntances.
I've done 'em all. Vanilla, BC, ICC, cleared and packaged (though at lv80 - haven't been playing long).
What sets me apart from most raiders is once I've cleared an instance, I'm not interested in doing it again. My guildmates and I fought for days on the Lich King before finally defeating the boss. After that I stopped raiding and was kicked from the guild, which I happily accepted.
This was the same for all raids - once I'd seen the content I lost interest, except Ulduar, the most interesting and fun raid in WotLK.
I was never interested in doing hardmodes for loot, and especially not achievements for the sake of achievements, or the godawful mounts from ICC (seriously, they're crap).
I'm not calling negatives on those who pursue this - you pay your fifteen bucks a month and are therefore entitled to play however you like.
This goes the same for me for all games - I play the single player campaign on the Regular/Standard/Normal difficulty only, because that's the intended material in the game. The gameplay, story, enemy challenge and last and least, visuals. I never chase Veteran/Hardcore/Nightmare modes, and rarely chase stats or achievements unless the pursuit is fun, and not too challenging.
I don't class myself as a casual gamer, nor hardcore. I play a wide variety of games and spend long stretches of hours playing. I'm wanting to know if there's a community of players like me, who still know what fun and interesting content is.
