Two ideas.
1: Have weapons in levels that can be operated in fatalities. For example, if you've managed to collect a shotgun in a weapon's factory stage, you could do something where instead of putting in some combinations of buttons to FINUNSH HEIM, you could click l3 to aim a shotgun at the poor person. Then, you'd use the analog stick to aim, and it would be like Armageddon's KAF: There are spots where it is a 1hko, and there are spots where you can do damage, like shooting a limb off or blowing a hole in his stomach. You've only got a limited amount of time before the bugger just falls over.
2. Full-stop 2V2. Not tag outs, actually 2V2. Imagine you've just been speared by Scorpion, and he's about to do his combo, when he gets punched in the face by your partner. Or, as you just used Cyrax's web attack on someone, Sub-zero freezes you, and your opponent has time to escape it. Could be cool.
