Not really a fan of them, I can see how people would be, but they're not for me. I'd rather have a single character who is me in an RPG like game that can use multiple summons or control troops.

As far as I know though, don't RTS games not work very well on consoles? I was under the impression they were best suited to PC and people generally just stuck to that. There's the obvious suggestion of the newest Starcraft game, can't really think of anything else.

For PC, any Total War game. Shogun 2 is coming out soon. That looks pretty good so far.

The only PS3 game that comes to mind is that ball rolling/castle crushing thing they showed at... E3? I don't remember. I think it was a downloadable title.

I've thought of getting R.U.S.E, but when I found out about Civ 5 (I am new to the genre) I decided I would get that instead.

They have their advantages and disadvantages, just like turn based strategies, they can be quite fun sometimes.

In my opinion, RTS game varies quite a bit and it's a mixed bag for most people. If you like traditional RTS games, I highly recommend Starcraft 2 and the Command and Conquer series (Eariler half though, not later half after C&C3), if you enjoy more of a tactical kind of RTS, I recommend Company of Heroes or Men in War or Dawn of War series. If you like a more grand scale game, Supreme Commander, R.U.S.E, Total War series, Sins of a Solar Empire and Total Annihilation are good games to play. If you're more into the RPG/RTS kind of games, which there isn't much that I know of, I guess DOTA and its variants (Heroes of Newerth, League of Legends) are good examples, but I don't know if those actually oount since they've been classified as an individual genre.

For consoles, R.U.S.E is in my opinion, the best current RTS for consoles, Tom Clancy's Endwar is also somewhat decent to play from what I remember, but I personally prefer R.U.S.E.

Depends if you plan on getting into the multiplayer right now and what platform you're talking about. From the PC side, I'd say that R.U.S.E is pretty good for what it offers, having its emphasis on deception and tricking your enemy and the scale that it plays on. However, I find the interface to be quite minimal and would've liked a somewhat better interface such as adjusting your units into formations and when to shoot and not to shoot. The multiplayer is a bit unbalanced right now, since you can spam units to victory and just destroy with "balls of units" but if you can get past that with proper counters, it can be quite fun. Despite some of its flaws, I still recommend trying it.
