Silver, gold, platinum for me.

I tend to like only a handful in each of the sub-genres, and I listen to whatever I'm in the mood for that particular moment/day. There's also bands like GWAR that flip-flop from album to album, and are just plain hard to label at any given time.

Death Metal. Specifically, Melodic Death Metal. I also listen to Black, Folk and Pagan Metal. I'm going to see Cradle of Filth and The Agonist next month. \m/

Thrash Metal for me. Kill 'em All by Metallica is one of my all time favorite albums.

I voted Pokemon, because I'm in the same camp as both of these people.

ditto for Progressive metal. I'm an opeth guy myself.
As both of those are my favorite in the genre. :D

So, yay.

Grunge is metal? Ok then.

I'm probably with this guy, but it's close. I love metal, but I'm fairly picky, and there's a lot of shitty metalcore that I really dislike. As for my favourite band, it's a dead heat between Anthrax, Mastodon, Lamb of God, Machine Head and Parkway Drive.

Uh, not to be an elitist dick-waffle, but as a big metal head, I disagree with a lot of your categorizing in the poll.
-Grunge isn't even close to being a genre/sub-genre of metal...
-"Pagan metal" isn't an actual genre (But I don't consider any "[instert religion] bands" separate genres personally). Amon Amarth is firmly in the melodic death metal sub-genre of death metal and, even though this is the first I've heard them, Hagalaz' Runedance sounds really folk metal-y, so why isn't it in that category? Aso, I think that a lot of bands that you'd maybe consider to be "pagan metal" would be very folk metal oriented.
-Death metal is a VERY broad category (almost as broad as just saying "metal") with numerous sub genres. For your examples, Meshuggah is progressive death metal, and I'd consider Behemoth to be black metal actually (but I can also see them categorized as regular death metal with some black metal influence as well).
-Nine Inch Nails is not Nu-metal. Nails is most definitely industrial.
-I dislike joke answers to polls. They throw off the data. Also, you must make all joke answers involve "bacon" in some way if you insist on using them.
I agree with this guy too (although I did say metalcore, and I'm sure people would disagree with me on that being metal, but I'd definitely consider metalcore along the lines of modern Killswitch Engage or Parkway Drive as metal, whereas stuff like Every Time I Die I consider more to be punk).

Wait, you have nu-metal, grunge and pagan metal, but you don't have power metal, doom metal, progressive metal, heavy metal, or viking metal? Okay then.

Anyway, if I were to play favorites with my metal genres, I would probably have to pick doom metal, simply because, of the doom I've listened to, it has the highest percentage of stuff I really like. Although progressive metal, death metal, black metal, and power metal are all really close.

Favorite bands, for doom metal, My Dying Bride, Reverend Bizarre, and Ea.

For progressive metal, Devin Townsend and Ayreon.

For death metal, Gorguts, Strapping Young Lad, The Project Hate, and Septic Flesh.

For black metal, Summoning, ...And Oceans, and Burzum.

And finally, for power metal, Blind Guardian, Aquaria, and After Forever.

Wow, that ended up being a lot of stuff. I guess that tends to happen when I post in metal threads.

Symphonic/Neo-Classical and Doom metal is amazing but my favorite has to be thrash.

I consider Kill Em All and Peace Sells...But Who's Buying are some of the best metal albums to come out during the 80's and some of the best straight forward metal albums in general.

Death metal would be my absolute favourite (though I am not a fan of either Behemoth or Meshuggah). Wait, is Meshuggah even death metal? I've never heard their music, but I have never seen anyone link them to death metal. I heard they're djent, or some such. Anyways, as far as death metal goes, I tend to lean more toward the old school stuff. Morbid Angel, Obituary, Entombed and so on. I could list loads. Old school death metal isn't exclusive for me though. I do like some technical death metal, like Nile and Suffocation. Also, for the record OP, Amon Amarth is also death metal. Not pagan metal.

A very close favourite would be epic doom metal. Solstice, DoomSword, Scald, Candlemass, Atlantean Kodex etc. Very good stuff indeed. So yeah, death metal closely followed by epic doom is my favourite stuff. I tend to bounce around most metal genres though.

I am sorry, but where my classic heavy metal at? You know, like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Angel Witch, Diamond Head, Accept, Armored Saint, Manowar, Queensryche, Saxon, Scorpions, Raven, Warlock, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Trust, Budgie, Buffalo, or Blue Oyster Cult? Anybody remember those guys? Or hell, even important derivatives of the style, like doom, hair, and stoner metal? Leaving off a number of significant genres there...

Uh, I voted death metal, but on your poll there, Meshuggah isn't death metal, and Amon Amarth is. AA certainly isn't "pagan", it's like melodeath, and Meshuggah is prog, which should probably be a seperate poll option... Nitpicks?
