In my own interest, and I don't mean to cause any debates, please just answer the above poll truthfully I want to get as many people to answer this as possible.

Please ignore my spelling of favourite, I'm Canadian

If you want to put the good points about your favourite games, please don't argue, this is purely for educational purposes!

My primary interest is RPG and its sub-categories that people seem to always claim to be individual genres. I primarily enjoy the JRPG sub category the most because I enjoy that stlye more. SRPGs coming in second and WRPGs in third. WRPGs are fine but there are just some elements of them that don't sit well with me.

Fighters have recently taken second place for favorite genre with me. I love the competitive nature of them, the intricacies of each fighters system, and the overall depth they provide. They make you (for those who actually give a damn) strive to become better and the ultimate goal of being the best is always just out of reach but never so far as to seem impossible.

And third would probably be Shooters. I've had a bit of a falling out with them in the past year or so, but they are still fun I guess. Just recently they haven't been fun and they just feel too derivative to me. At least there are a few on the horizon that actually look fun...and aren't called CoD...

OMG I forgot to add fighting games... I feel stupid...

I like JRPGs myself, but generally I'll play a bit from almost every genre. The reason I'm asking is because I want to know what the bigger market is right now that and a mass of other things.

I'm pretty sure it's a no brainer to see that shooters and MMOs have the biggest market right now. People really like to shoot stuff and grind their asses off, I have just lost a lot of enthusiasm over shooters because there are very few fun ones. Kinda wish Vanquish was on the PC, game looks awesome; but I still have Bulletstorm and Crysis 2 to look out for.

but...but....you -know- it's going to be RPGs of some kind :(
Not sure what you mean there...
I mean RPGs are going to get the most votes.

Not because it is the most popular (well..not ONLY that) but because RPGs can be from any -other- genre and we basically call them RPGs if we level.

RPGs are a -huge- market, and every time we have a poll like this :p RPGs are on top. Generally with good reason, lots of play time, good stories, mostly everything we look for in a game....besides quality >.> that's independent of genre.

Maybe if you had a rule like ME2 is a TPS, Fallout 3 is a FPS...or something like that it'd be different :( but..*shrug* your poll :x I'll shut up

First off, did you add those genres deliberately for a reason or being ignorant of other genres? (No offence)

If the second one, add Strategy, change TPS to Shooter, make Sports and Racing one genre and please add fighting.

/rant
I choose RTS (Strategy, broader the better.)

FPSs, followed closely by Third Person shooters. Most of my favorite games (Bioshock, Condemned, Fallout 3, Dead Space) fall into those categories.

First Person Shooters

It never gets old killing someone in ways they would never see coming.

FPS. I'm an action junkie, don't have time to explore open worlds and complex quests when there are linear monster-closets that needs venting.

i voted for fps but i like alot of other game types like mmorpg(wow) rpg(witcher) i also like what ever genera assassins creed and prince of persia fall into

the only game types im not a big fan of are sports games and racing games. sports games i dont see the point. why not actually go outside and play the sport. i play games to do things i cant do in real life like massacre an airport full of civilians or fight a dragon or travel back intim using some sort of blood based memory thing.

racing games tend to just end up being a repetitively boring race around a track that as far as i can tell havent made any improvements to the game type in 15 years since mario kart racing.

I feel that it's a really good time now to be a roleplaying gamer. Lot's of nice RPGs out there just waiting to help me ruin my school work.

Yep, I voted RPGs.

FPSRPGs or TPSRPGs for me. I always seem to find hybrid games like this the most interesting. Ones that combine multiple elements of different genres. Having stealth, tense action, and long-range sniping (be it with arrows or guns) in my FPSRPGs raises the experience greatly for me, and I find it great to have intense cover-based combat in my third-person RPGs. Yes, this probably tells you which games I hold in high esteem as my favourite.

I guess GTA clones fall into third person shooters too. Those sorts of open world sandbox third person games are up there as one of my favourite genres too. I mean, what more can you say about a genre that encompasses the batshit insane madness of titles like Saints Row 2 and Prototype? However, it's not a sort of thing I automatically enjoy, though. There are plenty of titles in the sandbox third person shooter mould that aren't particularly enjoyable, which is why I can't specifically list it as my favourite game style.
