So since I began reading the escapist, my first thoughts were that this was an internationally owned site, perhaps because ZP brought me here. But then i began looking at everything else the site has to offer, and have since discovered that escapist is based in... North Carolina maybe? i forget right now... anyway, then i'm beeboppin' around the forums and see a lot of British-type people, maybe Australian, spelling words like color as "colour" generally means that you're British-ish, or a pretentious american.

so i'm wondering, is this an american site primarily occupied by Brits? if so, why is that do you think? ZP?

(so before i post this, i'm noticing that this may come across as racist, but i'm really just a curious person. i understand that race or ethnicity has nothing to do with our enjoyment of videogames, or our desire to discuss them amongst like minded people. It was just a bit of a trend that i couldn't help but notice.)

(PRE POSTING EDIT: there's not enough available choices for me to not feel like i'd be pigeonholing some people, and i wouldn't want to include an option like "Oriental" way too broad, so i'm changing this...)

Are you american or not?

(Post-Posting edit: I didn't scroll down to erase Polish, please don't select that.

I guess I'm American. I live in New York, but my parents are both from Guatemala.

Aussie and...proud of heritage, ashamed of country. Yahtzee is within driving distance of me though if you'd consider that a balancer.

As for why there's a lot of non-Americans here...well, there's a lot of non-Americans in the world, although media could lead people to believe otherwise, many of whom speak English, many of whom have access to games and the internet. General geographical likeliness I guess (I so made up that term, hopefully it makes sense...)

British here, and I'm guessing the majority (if each country counted on it's own) are American, but people really notice differinces than the similarities.

German here. Although I live in America. At the time of me writing this there are 80% of the people being non american, which really kinda intrigued me. How many people here are answering with their "Heritage" rather than where they live/were born?

To point out the obvious; I'm not foreign, you are.

I know you don't mean anything by it but it is dim assertions like this that only enforce the image that Yanks see themselves as the most important part, centre of, only worthwhile area of etc the world.

Even your final question, American or not?, shows that you don't really care where anyone is from except for America.

You're not even consistent within your OP; declaring your interest in whether or not this site is predominantly British seems to have little to do with whether we are American or not.

Bah, I'm nitpicking in a confrontational way but you seemed to be trying for neutrality yet failed terribly. I just felt that I had to point out where you went wrong, so you can attempt neutrality in a more effective way in the future.

Oh, OT; not.

Norwegian here (as you will find me proclaiming every other post). For the less geographically inclined, it's in Northern Europe, Sweden's neighbour to the west.

I'm Russian, but I've been living in America half my life so I guess I'm a "yank" at heart

i resent being called foreign but i suppose i technically am to an American
either way I'm British

and as for why the Brits and Aussies would be here on an American site?
well we all share the English language and a love of gaming
the escapist happens to be (in my opinion) the best gaming site available in terms of content and forum conduct
it's only natural that anybody who could access this site, would

I'm the worst kind of non-American; A Finnish person!

I think I was just yesterday looking at some statistics, for the first time, about this site: how many users, where are they from, and so on. I also found out the headquarters are in North Carolina, so this thread has quite a fitting, coincidental timing.

The Escapist could have a more international view. Many areas and features are often either directed specifically for Americans, or for Aussies, or of course the representatives of United Kingdom. But I must take my hat off to some things; like not making country restrictions with the March Mayhem prizes.

What kind of foreign am I? I'm a fairly typical American (...which is such an unfair term... Brazil is part of the Americas too, isn't it?) who lived in Europe for a few years, visited the Middle East for a year or so, then came home. So I guess I'm not a foreigner [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5_qhnWByA4] right now... but I'll be one again some time this year.

Also, while Nike corporation is headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, in the USA... it's a multinational company. Kind of like this site.

I was under the impression that Americans were the dominant nationality, possibly followed by British.

I'm British, by the way.

OT: Wouldn't know yet. Hopefully I'm not the "stupid foreigner" stereotype, but, since I am an American, I'll probably end up with that stereotype at some point.
