Hello ladies and gentleman,

It's kind of unbelievable that there isn't already a thread like this, even if there are tons of threads with the word "music" in it.
Well, since the topic pretty much sums it up, I'm not going to add a lot of information.

So: What music do you listen to? Do not only vote, but comment, and tell my why you like it!
It's your choice if you're going to be whether very specifically or just name the very basic kind of. It is also very appreciated to name a handful of examples.

I am very interested what taste of music the escapist folks have, so please, feel free to tell us anything about music you want!

I'm going to start,

Well basically I don't "hate" any kind of music (I really dislike Rap though), but I mainly hear music from the Electronic genre, such as House/Electro, Trance, Hardstyle and all that kind of stuff.
Why? Uhm I'm not quite sure but I just love the way it sounds. You can relax to it, but you can also shake to it.

So, tell me your opinions! :D

Oh yeah Metalhead here ;D

But I listen to all kinds from Paramore and Zebrahead all the way to Spineshank and All That Remains.

Right now I'm listening to Three Days Grace.

I'm not sure why I like it... just sounds good... and I like to mosh!

Rock and metal mostly. Also Reggae, although according to one friend, this is odd because I am "too white" to like Reggae. Also The Clash, love The Clash.
Dunno why I like the music I do,this is the sort of thing it's nigh impossible to explain, because each person's taste is unique to them and people can react to the same music very differently.

I mainly listen to rock, but I've found the most awesome group ever. Vitamin String Quartet. They do tributes to rocksongs...with violins!

Trust me, it's really impressive!

I listen to lots of different stuff.

Like...I'll listen to Nightwish, Tarot or Evanescence one time.
Next time I'll listen to 3 Doors Down, Alyson Avenue or The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
And next time I'll listen to Lights, Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift.

Anyway, those are my top bands, kind of tried to put them into groups.

Like early apocalyptica? Stuff like that is awesome. It kinda adds a new layer of depth in the music.

I'm going to see All That Remains in 11 days. BOOM!

Nah mainly a metalhead here, but I listen to a huge variety of music, right now it's The Vines. Soon will be Bigelf, then moving slightly more metal with some Dream Theater then maybe some Symphony X then Sikth? (Oh and if remembers the guitarist from Sikth, Pin, his new band are playing in my home town tomorrow night. Boom!)

But I love heavier stuff as well, from old black metal (Darkthrone) to newer black metal (Abigail Williams) and Prog-Death metal (Opeth, Talanas) Extreme metal (Anaal Nathrakh). I could go on, but yeah, any and all metal really as well as loads of other stuff.

What don't I listen to?

Nowadays I'm mainly into Hip Hop and Electronica, but I'll always have a soft spot for Prog and Metal.

But in general, I like good music.

You'd probably like Apocalyptica. A cello quartet that play a lot of metal. They did an entire album of Metallica songs.

I generally steer clear of most electric stuff. House, trance etc. I'm more into rock, pop, metal, punk, prog rock/metal, I love a lot of older stuff, Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Queen through to AC/DC, LOVE a lot of 80s and 90s rock with a bit of New Wave in there. RHCPs, INXS, Powderfinger. A lot of it's mainstream, but so fucking what? I also listen to a lot of classical music, and baroque and romantic and a little of 20th century. And the occasional musical. I've also been conditioned by my friends to like Lady Gaga. Spiritual entity of no particular religon help me.

EDIT: Aussie pub rock FTMFW

I almost only listen to Metal and subgenres.

Finntroll, Korpiklaani, Alestorm, Ensiferum etc., but also more trashy things like Sodom and Kreator. If I want to totally fuck up my ears I listen to Rompeprop or other Grindstuff.

I mainly listen to rock (even though i have a lot of "spikes" in other genres).

Right now I've gained an increased interest specifically in southern hard rock:

Last 5 bands I've listened to, courtesy of shuffle, are The Getaway Plan, Pearl Jam, Iron Maiden, Kaiser Chiefs and Black Kids. If that's not enough variety, I don't know what is.
