Poll: What's the greatest and/or worst advice you have received?

So we all appreciate a bit of advice. Whether it be on how to tie your shoelace or on how to fight, kill a grizzly bear in a humane way, it's always welcome.

Spoiler: They need to be stopped.

Sometimes the advice we receive is great, other times it's...well, not so great. So what's the best or worst advice you have ever received. Whether it was truly helpful or just awful, share it!

For me, the greatest advice was from my father when I started driving.
"Remember Ectoplasmicz [footnote]He calls me that sometimes. [/footnote] , it's never your fault. All mistakes are the faults of others. You have to be wary of the other drivers, because most of them are terrible".

Best advice: I was told by someone that I should just turn my back on a overly dramatic situation that I was caught right in the middle of. I was far too involved to even see this as a possibility but once I thought about it, holy shit, he's right, fuck this!

Worst advice: A friend told me to never admit I had any sort of feelings for a girl I had been spending a lot of time with, basing this logic on an awkward situation he had with the same girl more than two years prior and not taking into account I was behaving rationally with her, unlike he had been at the time.

That's extremely silly. From personal experience being honest to someone you have feelings for is the best way to go.

I agree, for better or for worse. Dragging things out will almost never end well.

No, in a lot of places it isn't. For example, 14 of America's states allow people to MARRY their cousins.

Best and worst piece of advice I have ever received:

"Go for it".

It has lead to both some of my happiest and saddest times; some increidible experiences and missed oppurtunities. If I had my time back would I do it differently? Fuck yes.
