Hello,

So my friends, these are currently active and most popular open world franchises today and are getting each game year after years and here we analyse all of them

Assassins creed - founder of ubisoft boring open world formula that success and give birth to far cry (3 to onwards) and watch dogs. and this game is the reason behind the downfall of ubisoft. same boring stale yearly iteration that release year after year and only change setting.

Far Cry - I admit FC3 was pretty good but then the formula again get boring when next game release that was far cry 4 which was copy and paste far cry 3, then primal and now FC5. what all these games in common are they are same exact games with only setting change plus same insane villain.

GTA - It may not be yearly iteration or it get sequel years after years but this is gamings most boring series on earth. I did finish FC and AC but i cant finish GTA because how boring these games are. Im surprise there is a developer that make ubisoft good.

Watch Dogs - Modern day Assassins creed with hacking mechanics. nuff said

Just cause - it is most fun of out of other franchise thanks to how great just cause 2 was but its very average too. and after 6 years JC3 was step back to second game in almost every way its like they rush the development.

in conclusion, I think its no other than GTA series. I enjoy AC4, I enjoy FC3. one game in those franchise but every game in GTA series is boring. I still cannot believe these games always get 10/10.

So my friends what is the most boring open world franchise at the moment.

AC is fine.

FarCry at least is fun to play with. Especially on a PC.

GTA is the best selling franchise ever.

Watch Dogs sounds boring. As is Just Cause.

The Ubisoft one.

For there is only one Ubisoft game wearing a collection of equally dull masks.

I've played all except Just Cause, but I won't include that because from what I've seen it actually looks like a lot of fun. Screwing around and trolling the physics there means that there's enough to go around, without focusing on missions and stories.

Not sure why Saints Row wasn't included, but I found that quite fun, except for the last one (SR4), in which the super powers kinda killed the whole driving part of the game for me.

My vote goes to Assassin's Creed, which I played 1 and 2 and enjoyed both thoroughly (don't even know why so many people had gripes with 1), but when 3 came around and the actual assassin parts became so secondary and tacked on, and the rest is grinding or playing Sim Farm or some shit, it just said no thanks. The history stuff was interesting though, no idea how accurate it is. In AC1 and 2, at least you felt like an Assassin, scoping targets out, trying to get to them, prepping the area and routes, getting in there as cleanly as possible until you make the kill, and escaping with your life. Loved it, and all the tension. Then it became a pirate simulator, and I just couldn't be bothered anymore.

I'd give it to Watchdogs, but I haven't played the second one, and I actually enjoyed the first. I loved all the Far Crys up to Primal (because I'm not that big on clubs and spears), but FC5 looks shaping up to be quite good fun, regardless of the subject matter. If I'm honest though, killing redneck cultists and blowing shit up all over the country side looks like a shit load of fun.

Honestly I'd say the Souls is one of the worst. Its very tedious, very boring. Any given Souls game is about repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition repetition. And the 25+ time you try a single boss, its not exactly engaging anymore.

There's always shit to do, sure, but its not exactly worth doing...

dammit.

That said, I lump Just Cause 2/3 into the same tier as The Ubisoft one, since it suffers from much of the same problems - there's just so little to do despite the sheer scale of the sandbox.

Definitely. Do you like checklists and open worlds that feel like elaborate spreadsheets? Play a Ubi game. My most favorite franchise of theirs used to be Far Cry as I think the formula works best for this game but I was halfway through Primal when I really wasn't enjoying it anymore. Collecting everything just to upgrade all of your fucking shit means you can't move an inch before ''oh there is a plant better press square again b/c it's one other ingredient I need for a bigger pouch/arrow set/fur boots whatever''. Then watch that circle move sooooo slow while the hands of your character makes that grabbing movement in the air. It's just ugh..I can't do this shit anymore. FC5 looks fun but I'm not holding my breath. The formula is in need a of a serious shake-up but I don't think Ubi is able to do that. Then there is Horizon Zero Dawn that uses the same Ubi formula but somehow manages to be a really fun game. But atleast here the gameplay is fun and the world don't feel like a spreadsheet. It also doesn't have all that excess fat dragging everything down.

I was also really bored with Fallout 4. The Bethesda open world just isn't fun anymore. They really haven't innovated their formula either and FO4 actually seemed worse than FO3. A huge world that doesn't draw you in anywhere it just have you collecting literal garbage. The graphics are also ugly and why are they still using that shitty engine. Ubisoft games atleast can look quite pretty.

How do you know what makes a good game if you haven't played any shit ones? :p

Souls games aren't really open world but more skill based moment to moment experiences like we used to have in the olden days. It's actually a very classic formula and one that still makes the best games in my opinion. The fun of Souls is learning about the mechanics, enemy behavior and adapting your playstyle accordingly. The art design, the enemies, the world itself; everything just draws you in. For me Souls is the opposite of boring.

Yeah, it's funny that Ubisoft has defined that formula but other developers have done it so much better.

Shadow of Mordor was the best Assassin's Creed game ever made. Horizon Zero Dawn was what the Far Cry games could have been if Far Cry wasn't shit.

shadow of mordor was worse than assassins creed. the best AC game was black flag which was imo decent game. rest are crap.

rockstar games are far more boring and dull than ubisoft games. GTA games has long boring driving from point A to point B, then terrible shooting, bad driving etc

I take assasssins creed over GTA any day any week.

Probably Assassin's Creed but only because there are so Goddamn many of them. 1 & 2 were fine and Black Flag was decent fun but once you stripped away all the rollicking high seas adventure stuff it was the same ol' AssCreed underneath.

Just Cause also. I've only played 2 & 3 and they are fun but it's all empty spectacle. All icing and no cake. And sure, FarCry 4 might have been (the excellent) 3 with a new skin but at least it had some interesting characters. Like, does anyone give a singular fuck about Mario or that twitchy doctor in Just Cause 3? Like, at all?

Grand Theft Auto V had some of the most unlikable characters I've ever seen in a game so it is up there on my list but the gorgeous setting and heist missions almost make up for it.

Watch Dogs tried really hard to be gritty to the point of being annoying but I found the hacking elements fun and despite the graphical downgrades, enjoyed it well enough. 2 swung a bit too hard in the other direction with it's "lol internet" meme bullshit but it's still hella fun to play so far.

So my vote remains with 'sCreed, just because they've become the Call of Duty of open-world games.

Oh my god, how did I forget STALKER?

I take back my previous post. STALKER is clearly the absolute worst open world game of all time. Possibly the worst game of any kind.

I've never played an Assassin's Creed game so my vote goes to Farcry. It's hard to get bored playing GTA, if I get bored of the missions I can just drive around and look for secrets and go bowling or something. Hell, probably the most fun I have in those games is trying to make it from mission to mission trying to obey basic traffic laws and trying not to murder a bunch of people. And in Just Cause I can fly around in a wongsuit or grapple cows to helicopters or what have you

Farcry is a one trick pony, it has good shooting and fun missions, but everything between those missions is the most boring and samey and checklist-filling shit you can imagine

(_|_)(_|_)NN Creed by FAR. I know open worlds have plenty of detractors in here (and more power to you lot,) but as a fan, I prefer my open worlds offer at least one of two things: a variety of distractions or a fun method of traversal; Ass Crass does NEITHER. As cool as parkour might be in real life, parkour in games is tedious and stupid. The first Pass Gas was beautiful and at the time was quite unique and well enough fun if painfully repetitive, but since then, that one-trick pony has done nothing of note. Ass Clown IV: Black Flag was great, but ironically, it was despite everything that was ?Ass Creed? about it (you?d be a great person if it wasn?t for your face and personality.) I hoped Ubisoft might have recognized then, but they couldn?t WAIT to eschew the newness in lieu of more climbing bullshit. Oh, and by the way, let?s release a new one every 6 months until this generation?s grandchildren have grandchildren. I literally HATE that franchise.

The others in the poll are all fine by my account, Far Cry being the least of IMHO as it is stock Ubisoft repetitive, but at least it was fun to play and the Blood Dragon DLC was one of my favorite experiences of last gen; self-awareness will always score bonus points with me, and Blood Dragon?s farcical take on ?80s sci-fi was nothing if not that; brilliant display. GTA and Watch Dogs are two of my favorites. I was one of the [apparent] few who had no problem with the first ?Dogs. I don?t care if it didn?t live up to its early screenshots; gameplay was fun, varied, the hacking (though entirely unrealistic) was something new, and the multiplayer wherein you invade other people?s games was an INTENSE experience!

Consider yourself lucky. BUT, if you're ever curious: duct tape a kitchen knife to your wrist, climb the side of your house whilst making note of how oblivious your neighbors apparently are, then jump into a bale of hay; do that thirteen THOUSAND times, and that's 90% of the experience. If that sounds like your thing, then you don't know what you're missing. Seriously though, I can in good faith recommend Black Flag because the pirate shit is a lot of fun, but realize that everything that happens off the water is literally 100% of every other Ass Creed game and entirely dull.

Ubisoft: "We invented fire!" (AC1)
Everyone: "Yay for fire!"
Ubisoft: "Look! More fire!" (AC2)
Everyone:"... Yeah, we said it was great..."
Ubisoft: "Have you seen our fire??" (AC3)
Everyone: "Yes, goddamn it; we see your fucking fire. Christ..."
Ubisoft: "Look we added electricity to the fire!" (AC4:BF)
Everyone: "Ok, now THAT'S cool; get that fire out of the way."
Ubisoft: "But who needs electricity when you can have MOAR FIRE!!!!!" (Every AC since)
Everyone: "Fucking hell..."
