I have been wondering, having just watched a 'Mad TV' marathon, what is the most common favourite comedy style? Mine is either Intellectual or Funny Man-Straight Man comedy. Whats yours?

Intellectual- Things like Monty Python, or Vicker of Dibly, or Dilbert, when the joke requires you to think about it.

Slap-Stick- When the comedy is based around violence also known as physical comedy.

Stand Up- When a single person monolouges about funny events, or stories.

Funny Man-Straight Man- When the comedy Springs from an un-even pairing of two people with vastly different personalities.

Musical- When a song is funny Like Tim Minchin or The Flight Of The Concords.

Sketch- When a pre-made act is preformed with a theater of sorts, like MAD TV or This Hour Has 22 Minuets.

Spoof- When a place, thing, ect is made fun of like Comedy Now or Air Farce Live.

Black- Cynical, or ultra Violent Comedy Like Zombieland.

Sketch. I never get tired of a good sketch show. On the other hand, a bad sketch show can be painful to watch.

I really like listening to stand up comedians, so I suppose it would be the one I prefer the most.

Hmmm.... tough choice considering I like many different styles of comedy.

I'll just say all the above.

Asking me to choose a favorite style of comedy is like asking me which of my children I love most.

So I guess I'd have to say situational comedy/Peter Jr.

Sketch or Stand Up.
I prefer them equally, but I find them superior to the others.

Black Books style comedy. A sitcom, that's very bizarre, but always remains within the realms of possibility. You can get equal doses of wit, irony, surrealism, wordplay, all that jazz. It's very versatile.

I love Black Books so much!
It appeals to all types of comedy enthusiast because it has so much variety put into it's jokes. And It's probably because Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey are such different comedians.Bailey is more improvisational whereas Dylan is more reliant on wit,by the look of it.

My favorite type of comedy is Dar/black/gallows humor, specifically in movies.

I love that show! I love all kinds of humor but I probably watch more sitcom like the aforementioned Black Books, Red Dwarf, or The Mighty Boosh. Animated sitcoms like Family Guy are good too.

Stand up. Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle's standups are pretty good as far as i'm concerned, as were both of their comedy TV shows. Perhaps I like the entertainer themselves more than the medium that they use for comedy. Not sure about that one right now.

I like a variety of comedy--Marx Brothers to Miyazaki to Home Improvement; it all depends on what mood I'm in.

Improv, it's more of a type of acting, but I fucking love improv. I've started an improv club only to have it die in my home town, now I simply try to do it wherever I go.

Black comedy... like Bubba Ho-Tep, Zombieland, and the Boondocks. Anything with a good does of either action or horror and comedy.
