I haven't seen a thread for this years game of the year contenders so I thought I would make one.

For me, I would have to say Deus Ex Human Revolution because it has just the right balance for me of action shooting and role playing character building.

So what's your game of the year going to be do you think and why?

(Yes I am aware that none are out yet but I'm just asking what you THINK it will be)

Edit: I have now removed ME3 from the poll as it has come to my attention it is out NEXT year so sorry about all that people

For me its a tossup between TES5, Deus Ex 3, or possibly InFamous 2.

Probably should have included some game that have already been released earlier on the list. Or named the poll "Which unreleased game is likely to be your personal GOTY?"

Skyrim, because I'm a Bethsoft ho.

If a catastrophe happens and it sucks, my best runner-up is Dead Island, I'm having a bad vibe about Deus Ex. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Either L.A. Noire (which I have played and loved) or MW3 (which I obviously have yet to play).

None of the other ones stand a chance.

err, ME3 comes out next march and where's Assassin's Creed: Revelations?
but seriously it'd be Assassin's Creed: Revelations or Saint's Row the Third,
GOTY 2012? ME3!

If it weren't for this, my post would've had lots and lots of snark. I do however have to point out that Mass Effect 3 is coming next year. I would've otherwise picked that.

But seeing how I'm not, I'm gonna go with Deus Ex: Human Revolution too. I've checked out some previews, I even bought the PC Gamer magazine to read the review (which was 94 by the way). All in all, the game seems to capture the spirit of the original very well: they even brought back the grid-tetris-inventory, among many many other things. Honestly, when all people have to complain about is the color scheme, a yellow outline on objects and the fact that it has a cover scheme, it doesn't seem to have a lot of flaws.

Regarding the cover mechanic though: I was very doubtful about that as well. Well, I was at first. Then I heard reports from people who have played the game that the cover mechanic is actually very tight and works well withing the game, my doubts started dissipating. Also, I don't really see a better alternative, the stealth mechanics in the first place were in all honesty quite broken. In today's games, establishing stealth by making the AI dumb as a box of rocks isn't really an option. So now I'm fine with it and really really excited about the game.

But then again, I'm not yet certain if it'll beat Portal 2, which is my contender for the game of the year at the moment. We will have to see.

Ah yes I apologise for the ME3 error and if I could edit the poll the I would :p

Also for the others you are talking about, that is what the "other" section is for you can only have so many answers to a poll so an "other" option seemed logical

For me, it's a toss up between Skyrim and Saints Row. Skyrim so I can be classy and D&D nerdy about it, and Saints Row so I can be gangsta-classy and beat people with dildos.

Also, Dead Island's a must buy, but I don't see it making GOTY.

I think it'll be Skyrim or Dark Souls. If Skyrim can be more Morrowind and less Oblivion, I'll love it. If not, Dark Souls just has to be more Demon's Souls and it'll be fantastic. I never got sick of it.

DE:HR seems to me like it's going to be Rainbow Six: Vegas with dialogue. Maybe that seems weird, but the gameplay and cover system look very similar to me. It should be a decent game but not GOTY. I don't expect it to capture the magic of the original.

Assassin's Creed 2.75 or whatever the hell it is probably won't break enough new ground to bother me. They can forget about me buying any of them until it's AC3.

Saints Row The Third does look like a hell of a lot of fun... but I'll have to see how long the fun lasts.

Arkham Asylum is my sort of darkhouse candidate. It has a lot of potential.

I think Dead Island's biggest contribution to gaming will be its original teaser/trailer. Not a bad game but nothing particularly special either.

Umm...

None of those have been released yet.

So far, for me, it's Portal 2. At a distant second is Bulletstorm.

Looking forward to Human Revolutions.

Deus Ex is looking very promising, but I'm foremost an Elder Scrolls fan.

If not those two, then it'd be Dead Island. Or maybe any of the others.

God, this is a fantastic year for gaming.

Deus Ex3 may still turn out a prettier take on the maligned DX2.
Skyrim may turn out as bad as Oblivion, or at best a solid action-adventure with some minimal RPG elements.
SR3 is promising, but we've only seen sofar how the player can dick around, but very little of actual challenging gameplay.
BF3 will be solid game, but it's been done a 100 times before, just now with prettier gfx.

Arkham City would have my vote. Taking the game to an open city is a pretty straightforward, but meaningful improvement over the solid original and Rocksteady should be able to pull it off.

I'm waiting for Deus Ex, Skyrim and Dead Island.

I can't choose between the 3 YET because i've only had a tiny dabble at Deus Ex and haven't touched the other 2.

I'd need to see how the other 2 play out first beore making a choice.

If I was forced at gunpoint i'd say Skyrim though.

That one will give me the most hours of play time through all the mods.

inFamous 2 has my vote. I doubt any of the other games will impact me the same way its ending did.

Runners up being Dark Souls, Deus Ex, and Skyrim

Try actually reading my post first where I state:

Then comment :)

It's a matchup for me between BF 3 and Skyrim. I guess BF may flop for me whereas Skyrim is a surefire thing. (Not that I was ever able to get into Oblivion...)
