As I'm sure is apparent to everyone by now, the PS2 has had an incredible run. It consistently had an incredibly large market share, and about three years after the release of the PS3, the PS2 is still getting new games.

So, my question is, which of the current gen systems, if any, will still be a powerful force years from now? Can any of them pull off a run like the PS2?

Will the Nintendo Wii's casual gaming audiences help it last?

Will the Xbox 360 keep staying strong pandering to the young adult crowd with more mature games?

Will the PS3's superior but confusing hardware and new-found attention give it a longer life as more developers start targeting it?

Or will they all die at about the same time when Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony release their next consoles simultaneously?

I'm a 360 owner and I love it more than all other consoles, but I honestly think the ps3 has more staying power. Sony has been able to make the ps2 last for this long, and since the ps3 tops the other consoles in terms of graphics and speed, I don't think sony will have to move on as quickly as say, NINTENDO. They should have stuck with the damn gamecube.

I predict that PS3 will stay for longer than Wii and 360. First,it has better hardware, which means longer life. Second,it had rather slow start, and has gathered full speed later than other consoles.

I'm not sure. My instinct as a 360 owner makes me say the XBox, but then again, the problems may eventually force a change. I don't know enough about the PS3 to judge on it, because I still find it too expensive, which is a major detriment for me, but if the price was lowered, it could probably be the longest running.

I reckon the Wii will die first, but Nintendo will release something shinier and more annoying very quickly.

I think the Wii is already breathing it's last breath. I know 3 people who bought them and after 2 months got bored of it.

Out of the PS3 and the 360 I'd say the PS3 has the edge but that might just me being biased.

Its all been announced that the PS3 has a 10 year life at the very least, so its safe to bet on it staying around the longest.

PS3, i own 3 consoles and i think the PS3 is quite unique in that it still haves a lot to expand to, the 360 is already running low because tecnology is changing to fast and it seems like the 360 needs to adapt to the new tec, well, thats just my opinion

and yea, i dont mention WII because nintendo is known to release consoles much faster than any other company (but that might be because they were of the first into the market)

Me being a Sony fanboy or not, PS3 is obviously going to stay longer, the Wii will be swiftly forgotten, and if Halo 3 is playable on the xbox 720 or 180 then so too with the 360.

I don't know. First I thought of the wii, but I don't know how long it will last with last gen technology.

I choose the PS3, mainly for its hardware and the fact that its had a pretty slow start. As time oges by we'll be seeing more games that can make the most of the PS3 and it''l be a while before a new console in the works. I think the first to go will be the Wii, as I think Nintendo will be the first to bring out a new console, or try to release a slightly different Wii, just like the PS3 slim.

If I had to guess I'd say the Wii has the best shot, despite it being my personal least favourite of the three.

Why? Simple. The Wii isn't trying to compete in the same way the other two are. When Sony releases a new console, Microsoft won't be far behind, and vice versa. But since Nintendo isn't a serious competitor on the hardware field anymore and has focused on other things, they'll feel that pressure far less strongly than the other two.
