Out of idle curiosity, where did everyone's preferences fall with the Dragon Age romances? I'm wondering because Merril is one of the first game characters I've actually gotten a little attached to, as opposed to just pretending to like for the sake of roleplaying.

I was going to make this a Pan-Bioware Romance Poll Hoedown and include the Mass Effect and Baldur's Gate games, but there are only eight options, so there you have it. Sebastian gets the axe because he's a little seven dollar doofus.

morrigan obviously, i love a woman who can take a joke and can deal one right back without missing a beat.

Off topic: you didn't like sebastian? i thought he was a pretty sweet character, kind of reminds me of a prince of the old days.

Hmm.. difficult..

Morrigan definitely came across as the 'canon' romance option. There was more feeling of progression there than anywhere else.

But, and perhaps I'm biased because I just thought it was awesome they had a same sex male romance option.. Zevran.. He used to piss me off immensely, but the perpetually horny exterior hides a very interesting character. Bioware could very easily have just made him a one note lothario or had the whole hedonistic exterior be a facade to hide his miserable past, but they managed to steer a course quite carefully between the two.

I don't think I've had time to learn to love the DA2 ones yet.

Personal baggage, mostly. All his praying reminded me of my unfortunate days in a Catholic high school.

I loved a rivalry romance with Sebastian and friendly romance with Fenris.

Merill

Leliana

Morrigan

Zevran

In that order.

Merill is just awesome. She has some of the best lines and voice acting in the game, and her subplot is just so beautifully tragic it makes any other romance option impossible. I'm kind of surprised nobody commented on her (and other elves) having GIGANTIC eyes, but it fits the character, so I like it. Utterly, utterly, mindbogglingly cute. And that accent! Yikes.

At first I was a little annoyed that Leliana was the only available romance option (for my Warden) in Origins, but by the time I finished the game I'd grown quite attached to her. Yes, she's all 'ze Maker' this and 'ze Maker' that, but she's cute.

Morrigan is somewhat evil, but that's why I like her. BioWare managed to avoid making her tsundere and actually explained her behavior in a fairly satisfying way. Bonus points for that.

Zevran is a gay guy who likes shoes and leather. Sounds cliched, but he's pretty cool anyway.

Merrill I guess.

Well, sorta. Her actual romance subplot isn't so great, but she's easily my favourite romancable (is that a word?) character in DA. So she wins.

Basically this.

When she was first introduced I didn't like her. Initial reaction was, "Ah, so here's the cynically cute female intended to make me feel like a big man by comparison. No thanks." But after about an hour I was looking for the "Hug Merrill" button. Sadly it didn't exist.

The degree of sheer cuteness may be a bit cynical, but I don't care because it seems to have worked.

This. Merrill has an amazing character arc and is so adorable. It was a no-brainer in DA2. In Origins I'll go with Morrigan. I like the fact that, when you get down to it, she is just using you. No amount of love can change that fact.

I've only done the first game (pun not intended) as I haven't gotten far enough in the second for anything to manifest. So for that, I say Leliana. Her nigh zealous devotion to the Maker can get a little annoying, but she's a sweet girl. And I love that accent.

Plus you find out she's quite the deviant if you hang around her enough. From suggesting that Morrigan needs a new outfit (probably the best party banter in the game), to fantasizing about what her fellow lay sisters wore under their effects (if anything), to stories of "caramel pudding", Leliana's a saucy one. :p

My character fell in Love with Alistair.
When I play RPGs I REALLY role-play, but as myself, not as a made-up character. I kinda broke that rule because I played as a female mage even though I am a straight male teenager (if you must know, male magi looked retarded in that game, with the robes...) so my dick told me to sleep with Leliana, and that's what I WAS doing, but I stayed friendly with Alistair cause he was a cool dude....

....and then he gave her a rose...told her how he loved her....asked her if she felt the same way.....

...And I literally felt like my mage would kill me and delete my save files, if I chose meaningless lesbian action with a chick I didn't even like all that much, over this handsome man who was in love with her... So I broke up with Leliana and stayed with Alistair.

When a game character can override what the Penis wants.....now THAT'S good character writing. So my vote goes to him, until I play Dragon Age 2.

This is a really tough question. By default, I think I have to say Morrigan simply because there seems to be more development in her storyline, but that's partially because her storyline is almost the real storyline of DA:O (or if not of DA:O then of the DA mythos at large).

Personally, I think I'm going to have to say Isabella (which is odd considering she's sort of a female Zevran, and I hated him). She was written in such a humourous way and yet there is such a sweet darkness to her character that I'm saddened you don't get to really explore itfurther (yet, and I much hope that she's back back in the next DA game). I love how staying true to her throughout the course of DA2 ends with her finally admitting, to you both you and to herself, that she's fallen for you. That she can let the act go even just a little bit. Oh, and she's smoking hot appearance wise and that never hurts.

Probably going to have to go with Morrigan. Her sarcastic lines always made me laugh, and she just seems like the best fit for me.

Merril is awesome. She's sweet and naive, but not to an annoying degree, and I loved her tragic backstory.

I also liked Morrigan, and how awkward she gets if you tell her you love her. I just wish she wasn't such a fucking contrarian. No matter what I do the ***** disaproves.

As for the others: I liked Leliana because she was sweet, and not so innocent, and she has the tragic backstory going. I got sick of Fenris' brooding asshole routine. Zevran/Isabella both grated my nerves due to the fact that their defining character trait was "slutty". Never liked Anders, especially not at the end. And Alestir....if I could reach through my tv and punch him in the face I would, I started longing for Carth after putting up with him all game.
