Armham Knight on your list but not FO4? That's an odd pick.

I voted Witcher 3. Not only were MGSV, FO4, and Bloodborne disappointing for me, the game is just plain incredible. I was actually gonna pass on it, but picked it up on a whim, and man am I glad. A week after FO4 came out, I was already back on Witcher. It could very well end up being my game of the generation if FFXV is anything less than sublime.

The Witcher 3

The original answer this GOTY season, but the game is just a fenomenal achievement.

Bloodborne was good, but for some reason I've quickly grown cold toward it. Maybe it's because its "RPG" mechanics are rather limp and kind of got in the way of the action. It's still a fine game, but in the shadow of Dark Souls...

Batman: Arkham Knight was like the God of War 3 of that franchise; It was big, it was beautiful, but it was also too mired in its own broodiness to have any sort of fun. And obviously the Batmobil.

Fallout 4 is just Fallout 3 with a "new" coat of paint and some tweeks.

And Metal Gear Solid 5... *sigh*

My goty is Assassins Creed Syndicate. There is a ton of stuff you can collect in the game which will keep you busy for a long while. You get to play as an empowered female. You get to climb an enormous amount of towers. You have stealth missions that will 'desynchronize' if you don't do exactly what the developers want and erratic enemy AI and cool combat with input delay. Who doesn't like a good challenge? They already made like 30 of these games which ofcourse shows how good they are. Did I mention you get to collect a lot of stuff?

Runner-up is Order 1886. You press a button, the game plays itself and you get to watch. How awesome is that? The story is really good too with a werewolf and a secret organization. There is like 4 hours of cutscenes with no action in which big moustaches talk in riddles to explain the secret organization so don't worry about still being clueless when the story is over. The game is not all cutscene though as there are also QTE's at random intervals and the game also takes away your ability to sprint in most locations just so you can appreciate the environment more. The game lasts 4 hours but there is even like 10 minutes of cover shooting. This is next-gen.

Third game would probably be Call of Duty: Black Ops III. There is a tough military guy on the game's cover so ofcourse right away you know it's gonna be good. It's good I had my Axe deodorant ready b/c man being called a ''******'' by mouth breathing perma-virgins in online multiplayer makes this game intense. They release this game every year and they only do that ofcourse b/c this game is so good.

Disappointing games would probably be Witcher 3. Boring game about a guy with a beard and 2 swords(is he compensating for his tiny weener or what?). There are like no guns and towers to climb. The game only has trees and shit and too much dialogue with characters that look funny. I don't want to see some fat dude with a big red nose whining about his marriage I want to see a S O L D I E R blowing shit up.

Finally Bloodborne. Couldn't make it past the first enemy. Evidently I started the game on some insane difficulty level and I can't find in the menu where to put it down.

Is it bad that I read this part of your post first and thought, 'But...your avatar picture!' Had to read the rest of it to get it.

While I haven't play it, from everything I've heard--from critics and gamers--the Witcher 3 deserves it the most. Out of everything listed, Bloodborne is my favorite, but the game has a more limited audience I think, and a more narrow scope, so it would be hard to impress across the board.

Not entirely serious, maybe.

my goty is most likely batman arkham night but i havent beaten it yet. i heard there's a villain in the game named scarecrow. but it's probably not true

Undertale should be on this list... I mean it's my number 2 behind Witcher 3 but it's better than Arkham Knight!

Witcher 3, MGSV, Fallout 4, Bloodborne, Undertale, Life is Strange.

Based on my observations over the course of the year, those are the six titles most likely to appear on GOTY ballots.

I felt like that toward BB for a while too, and it wasn't until the last few months that going back and playing DS2 that I realized why that was.

There's just no variety in BB. The city largely looks the same(gorgeous, don't get me wrong), but if it weren't for the popup and enemies, I couldn't tell you the difference between the Orphanage and Gascoigne's area beyond one has a gigantic fire, maybe? The weapons are sorta just...not interesting. Kirkhammer is great for a bit, and then it just sorta blows. There's not really a dress-up thing to it, since you can basically be Gothic Hunter, Doll, and Choir Member with a bit of variation within those three costume types. Then there's the gameplay that's just...so samey every time you go in, you either dodge or you dodge and parry alot. Spells are more like an afterthought so there's not really any build variety beyond skill and strength(maybe a cannon bloodtinge build if you want to screw around and hate yourself).

I heard TOH added more interesting weapons in(though I still firmly believe the only fun weapon is the cane whip), but...I'm not sure I want to subject myself to that again.

Not that I'm saying that BB is a bad game, just that it's not all that replayable, certainly not anywhere close to how replayable DS1 and 2 are. And some of the bosses are sorta...boring because if you go in with the right paper, you win, if you don't, you have a harder time. It's just more a "play it once and never look back" game. Which is a real shame, because I've really been into Gothic Extra-Deimensional Horror since I was forced to read Poe in middle school(and wrongly thought it was stupid at first).

OT:

Witcher 3 all the way. I've stopped liking open-world games, but they took the formula and did what people(personally I believe wrongly) attribute to Blizzard all the time. There's not even a single throwaway "collect x of y for my lazy ass" quest that doesn't have SOMETHING to it and the space is just used very well(even if Skellige and the islands are a pain in the ass). Not to mention there's a good balance of drama and comedy in the narrative with the Geralt/Ciri chemistry giving one of the best father/daughter relationships we've seen in gaming. So much to love about that game for both the book fans and the game fans.

Witcher 3 would be my vote here though I'd like to note it had strong competition from mgsv.
I would honourably mention fallout 4 and undertale too.

Of course, this is all based on my personal opinion and satisfaction rather than some objective view of the games.

That's why I think the game might've benefited from just being a pure action game, with maybe a dedicated main character, who could still be silent. It feels like Dark Souls, but it lacks those layers. Which is ironic considering the etheric nature of the gameworld.

I had the same problem items wise. I actually just used the cane for the whole game, since it was pretty much the fasted weapon. And Magic is just this enormous cocktease, because you'll obviously wanna shoot lasers and interdimensional tentacles, but you don't want to wait 2/3's of the game, and dump a huge amount of EXP into a skill you won't be using for the majority, just to get it. And Armor is such a moot rating that there's no need to ever change your get-up, except for cosmetic reasons.

And yeah, the Bosses, while fine in their own right, could've used some more variety, aesthetically as well as mechanically. Most of them were just big beasts, which fits nicely with the setting, but precious few came at you from a different angle.

Undertale is the best game released this year I played this year, but it was a pretty good year for games IMO, lot of strong contenders. I still have not played witcher 3 and bloodborne, which are the two most likely to knock undertale off the top spot for me.

I've been thinking long and hard about this, and after reflection, I think that the GOTY honor should go to Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Revelations 2 might not be as cool as Resident Evil 6, but it is a fantastic third person shooter with plenty of replay value.

As with the previous fifteen GOTY topics, it's Witcher 3.

I voted for, [small]God damn, I hate all of these games[/small] The Witcher 3! That seems to be the safest bet. Despite that game being dreadfully boring.

Not sure why MGSV is on the list, a lot of people complained that the single player didn't feel complete. And if it takes DLC to complete the single player story, should it count as a GOTY contender?
