Guitars obviously. But bass is a very closs second. A good bassline can make a decent song great (think Metallica's Orion), and I always loved bass solos (think anything by Marcus Miller or Cliff Burton). Which is also why I bought one the other day!

Of course, for truly superlative virtuosity on the saxophone you can't beat the Sax Man.

Guitar is my favorite as you can make so many sounds and depending on mood I prefer either acoustic or electric, but appreciate a good bass. Second favorite is keyboard, I love them so much and you can make a whole track just with a keyboard if it's a good one.

I listen mostly to rock and stuff, so I have to say... cello. Didn't see that coming, heh?
The sound of a cello is beyond beautiful. Just listen to the soundtrack from Braid. Or music by Giovanni Sollima. It's so beautiful I could just cry.

Then there is bass after that. Love me some good bass. Slap-bass is the coolest of the bassessess...ess.

Piano is by far the best i think and pretty much goes with any form off music. E.g. Listern to the piano cover off Run to the Hills or The Trooper.

I play guitar and alto sax, but I just voted guitar. Both are really fun, albeit VERY different, instruments to play. Guitar helps me get chicks, and alto sax helps with the... ahem... "tonguing". It works out very well.

I prefer drums above all, and I consider myself a pretty good drummer, but I also love the deep sound of a bass.

I agree... I'm pretty good at the drums, and have just picked up the bass three days ago, I'm teaching myself to play :]

Oh, and seperate category for bass and guitar, yet not separate for drums...? Bah.
