First of all, obligatory stuff:
Pacific Rim was one of the most entertaining movies I've seen this year at the very least. The last time I felt such joy while watching a movie was during Avengers.

We saw four Jaegers in action (although two of them were shown briefly) and each one of us has our personal favorite. Which one did YOU like?

(Quick note: by "other" I mean Jaegers that appeared only briefly, or were present only in promotional posters, or any else besides big four)

Although Gipsy Danger was cool and had this heroic vibe to it, my favorite one is still Cherno Alpha. I always liked more powerful characters, and this tank is really to my liking. It is HUGE, fully-armored oldie, that kept Russian lands safe for six freakin years. And it's taunt, when it slams it's two fists... It is just so badass!
Shame that
It had to be destroyed so quickly. For Gods sake, why two most interesting ones had to go so soon?

What about you, guys?

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I agree. The russian one looked BAD ASS. I love it's oversized superarmored head.

Crimson Typhoon was pretty awesome. That extra arm and spinning axe thing had so much potential.

All of them... so very much... I really with Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha had gotten to do more though... they went down quicker than they should.

Cherno Alpha simply for looks and being a deadly fucking brute. I liked Crimson Typhoon for being the most different of the jaeger project.

Despite it was short lived, I like Crimson Typhoon and no it isn't cos they are an Chinese crew! It was very unqiue looking Jeager (red paint job and has three pliots and arms) I also like Eureka Striker for being the newest of the remaining lots (it had that speedy and hi tech look to it).

It a shame they never shown that Japanese Jeager properly

Gipsy Danger was rather awesome indeed but Cherno Alpha just nailed the Russian way of doing things. Obsolete? No matter, we hold the line irregardless. All you need are giant robot fists and a bottle of vodka!!

Guess I'll be the first one to actually post it, but Gipsy Danger was my favorite. I really dug the chest cannon

Pretty much this. There's no such thing as "obsolete" technology in Russia, there's only things that work and things that don't work.

Sure the newer ones look good, but do they run analog?
Cherno did, but due to Murica requiring only Muricans (and their foreign girlfriends, but only if they're hot) to be heroic the commies had to die like bitches, first the red ones, then the yellow ones. Even the friendly Aussies get exploded.

Cherno was such a good looking and brutal design, all the other ones suffered from looking a bit Robotech (not bad as such, but leaves them without much visual punch), Cherno looked like some kind of cooling tower golem. Even from it's first appearance in the trailer people liked it, it's such a striking looking machine.

With any luck Pacific Rim 2 will include a Cherno Beta and mechs that look a bit more unique, they can still look like they've escaped from an anime (since that's the point) but more individual.

Brawler Yukon.

*crickets*

Was I the only person who ordered the prologue graphic novel? I'll be perfectly honest it wasn't the smartest buy I've ever made, for £14 including postage I had it read in less than an hour. Fleshed out the backstory quite nicely though.

Anyway, Brawler Yukon was the very first Jaeger prototype, was forced into combat when Kaiju Karloff attacked Vancouver. The text boxes for the scene are rather cool;

"I don't know what goes through a Kaiju's head.

I'd like to think we surprised it.

It had come expecting these helpless, frail, little apes, and it found that we had done something BIG.

I'd like to think it wondered where we had found the nerve.

And when it bled, I'd like to think it was scared.

I'd like to think its raw animal instincts told it to run away and crawl back into its hole.

I know one thing for sure.

It felt pain.

And half of what hurt it - maybe more - was that mouse of a girl from Pittsburgh."

Where's the 'Meister' option? There should be a Meister option.

Ok, ok, I'm not seeing the film until tomorrow. I'll update this post when I have more to add.

[sub][sub]Don't hold your breath, it won't be that interesting.[/sub][/sub]

Didn't think so.
I also thought that was kind of odd. I mean I got that Gipsy Danger ran off a nuke and the others didn't, although that begs the question on what they did run off of, but an analog robot is something that doesn't have electronic switches. I think. And they clearly did, I mean they even had the robot voice. Maybe I just misunderstand what an analog robot is.

More on topic. I am going with Carolus Rex.

To the sky's.

Edit I know that one is like fan made, but it's fucking Carolus Rex man.

The intro scene of Gipsy operating shows the harness that the pilots are mounted on running down below the pilots, filled with gears and stuff. When you see the inside of Striker Eureka it doesn't have the same setup. I'm assuming this is the analog system that Gipsy has. Didn't get to see enough interior shots of Cherno and Crimson to make an assumption on them. I would assume that Cherno was analog too though.

As for the electronics I remember seeing a video where they tested an EMP device on an older (mid 90's) car. If the car was on and got hit by the EMP it shut down and would not start unless specific parts of it were replaced. But when the car was off and got hit nothing happened. It started fine afterwards, even the radio still worked. Newer cars on the other hand wouldn't fare so well in that test since a lot of them rely heavily on more fragile circuitry for critical components like steering. In any case I assume that since Gipsy was in the hangar and probably powered off when it hit only a few if any components would need repair/replacement. That said any computer onboard, active or not, would need replacement.
But hey, I felt it was an acceptable breach in logic at the time.

OT: Never gets any screen time or even so much as a picture but there is a Jaeger named Mammoth Apostle. I love it simply because I can decide on how awesome it looks based on the name.

As for screen time Jaegers I have to go with Striker Eureka. Looks like pure undistilled awesome.
