So, I've been really depressed lately and figured I should try something to take my mind off of everything. I thought an RPG might do the trick. I listed off 8 of them in a poll. The first two I've never played, the next three I've started, but had difficulty getting into, and the last three I've beat before, but they're favorites and I figured I could give them another go.

A quick disclaimer on KotOR, my laptop would be the device I'd play it on, and I'm not sure if the touchpad thing is appropriate to play such a game. Also, I have KotOR II that I can play afterwords which I've never played before.

Um, in all honesty? All of them.
I'm sure I'll get to them all eventually, I have a huge backlog due to lack of focus, tendency to replay games, and a packrat collector mentality. These are just the ones at the top of my list.

KOTOR is the only one on that list I've ever played myself. Why not try Dragon Age or The Witcher?

For depressed I'd say The World Ends with You or Persona 4 but only 4, 3 is not a happy game.
Also everyone should play Chrono Trigger.

If you haven't already, Planescape: Torment.
These are all games I have, I don't have Planescape: Torment, and I have absolutely no money (Just one thing adding to the whole "depressed" thing, not that I want money to spend on games). I might give it a try one of these days. I've heard good things, and I liked Fallout and Fallout 2 well enough.

I'm not going to replay Dragon Age until I get Awakening and/or Ultimate Edition, and I don't have The Witcher. By PC isn't the best for gaming anyway, but it should manage older stuff just fine.

I know from experience The World Ends With You helps with depression, but I wasn't sure if I should replay it or try something new, same with Chrono Trigger. I only have Persona 1, sadly 3 and 4 passed me up when I had cash to spend.

Go with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic then, it's addictive enough to get you hooked and it's got the whole "Look at me, I'm an awesome Jedi" that might help getting rid of that depression.
That's another in the "already played" pile, so I wasn't quite sure if I should replay it or try something new. I'm leaning a bit towards it right now, since the touchpad on my laptop apparently won't be a problem. I've only previously played the Xbox version (And it was on the 360 too, so it didn't really work right).

Another in the "to buy" pile. I'm a bit of Lovecraft fan, and yes I am too broke to afford a $3 game. Well, not exactly, but I don't have a debit card or anything, so buying things online is a hassle...

Of all the listed games, the only one I've played is Tactics and not even that incarnation of it. SO my suggested RPG to you is one near and dear to my heart, Legend of Legaia. It will require you whip out the old PS1. But it has a rocking story line, great dialog between characters, and despite having random encounters and turn based combat, the combat never get tedious.

My stack of unplayed PS1 RPG's is at my mom's so even if I had that one, I wouldn't be able to check it out right now...

I'm going to be a bit of a grinch here and suggest that you don't buy Cthulhu Saves the World if you're a fan of RPGs or the Lovecraft stories. It plays like a rather boring RPG title of the SNES era, and the attempts at humour made me physically cringe. Most of it seems to be the result of the game designer thinking "Wouldn't it be funny if Cthulhu was an anime character who says 'fhtagn' instead of 'fuck'?"
That said, I bear no ill will toward anyone who does enjoy the title.

More on topic: I'd suggest either Super Mario RPG or Knights of the Old Republic. SMRPG is just fun all around, and KotOR is really good all around, with minor hiccups.

Well, i remember being bored out of my mind with KoTOR. Not really remember why though, kinda blocked it, but some flashbacks of my toon running through endless repetitive plains that seemed desolate come here and there.

That said, it does have a strong fan-doom.

All of them are truly excellent, but for me, KOTOR takes the cake. Its worth playing just to play the second one which is one of the best games of all time IMO.

Super Mario RPG is kinda slow, and it managed to depress me from the enviroments and colors.
I'd go with KotOR one and two. Both of them are epic. I just have to say when you are asked about your lightsaber color pick the one you WANT it to be.

Well, on my first playthrough, I wanted a red one, so I killed the first person I saw with one. Turns out, they were a possible party member, oops...
