I've read that Reggie said the Wii U was "Made for You", as in the hardcore gamer. So it kinda makes sense, given that "Wii" is a Japanese play on the term "We" but having the last two letters shaped like a pair of their peripherals, signifying playing together. I think the names are pretty clever tbh. Same with the Switch. It's quick, kinda slides off the tongue like a ski jumper launching off the ramp, and is literally a functional term for it as well.
Playstation has been around for what, 22 or so years now? It's also a functionally sound mainstay to separate it, as well as being an escape from the "workstation" that millions are shackled to daily. The number at the end may be considered unimaginative, but it's again functional because it denotes a generational update and doesn't deviate from the relatively iconic brandname. "Slim" is also simple and aesthetically sound. Clever, even.
At least more clever than "Xbox 360", which is what I voted. I get the "Xbox" part because of Microsoft's own DirectX, and that "box" is considered slang for a piece of hardware, but what the hell were they thinking with "360"? I mean, it could be anything...I guess the disc in the tray spins 360, the...I just don't know. If they're going for an all-encompassing solution then no, it was nowhere near what you get with a PC. Hell, even the PS3 had that covered far more effectively, especially when it still had Linux support. Plus, all it did was lead to stupid speculation on what the next one would be called. 720 you say? No....
"One". Yes that's correct, the third console in Microsoft's lineup doesn't even have a 3 in it. I guess they figured they might as well take a better jab at the "all encompassing" thing since the 360 left heads spinning. But wait, it turns out that's not what everyOne wanted at all. In fact, they had to take away launch features One by One in order to stay in the game at all this gen.
I Onede, I mean I wonder what they'll come up with next.
