After the lovely firefight going down in the Saints Row IV thread, I'd love to see the numbers when it comes to peoples' opinions of these games.

I personally vote Saints Row 2. I guess people can start their own discussions, I'm only really interested in the numbers (hence, the poll), but feel free to discuss as you'd like.

EDIT: to make this more interesting, post saying what game you started the series with. I played the second one first.

I liked SR3 a lot more, but it's probably due to SR2's PC version being a poorly made port. I couldn't even bring myself to finish SR2. I also like SR3's over-the-top style.

SR3.

I didn't like any of them, but I thought SR3 was an improvement on SR2.

I know a lot of people prefer SR2, but I barely understand why, although I do get that SR2 had more extensive character customization and that SR3 turned the "wacky" up to ridiculous levels. I thought everything else about SR2 was just utter shit. Like, makes-Colonial-Marines-look-OK levels of shit. Shit graphics, shit controls, shit combat, shit animation. Shit everything.

SR3 suffered from many of the same problems, but at least it had funny melee attacks and, uh... and... yeah, funny melee attacks.

SR2, without doubt. Far more memorable and interesting characters (both allied and adverse ones), more side missions, more customisation options, bigger city, combo system for melee combat... gameplay and content wise it's just superior to the sequel in every possible way. SR3 is far better optimised for PC, though, so there's that.

Saints 2. The gangs where far more interesting and unique in that one. Despite their efforts to have 3 be more wacky and silly i found 2 to be more enjoyable and unique.

Also from what i played it seems the third all but replaced missions with activities. Rather then playing through 2 activities to fill your respect bar to do one of the 15 gang missions it turned into do A LOT of activities to get one of the very few gang missions.

The gang leaders in the second game stood out. Mareo was a though but nice big guy, Akuzi was the stern asian gang leader and the general a very baddes..well general. In the third the major villain didn't last longer then the opening and was replaced with a weird Mexican wrestler.

Saints Row 2.
I awaited for the release day for too long and I got the collectors edition, totally worth it.

For the game itself.
In all honesty it IS better then Saints Row: The Third. Well in my opinion at least.

The game had a better story. (Cried at one part ... which was surprising. 0_0)
Better customization. (I could make one wacky formal jacket unlike in SR:TT)
More weapons. (The katana was awesome too.)
Interesting combat. (The melee in SR:TT is cool, but I like how you had combos in SR2 and you could change the style)
Better characters. (I thought that The Boss was way more bad ass in the second game. They felt too ... meh in SR:TT)
Better map. (It had more variety in areas)
Better activities. (Why the f*ck would they bring back the usual boring ones and not stick to the fun ones in SR2? Like COPS and spraying the sh*t everywhere one?) + (If you completed most of them you get the unlimted ? ammo instead of BUYING it with money. -_-)

Don't forget that this is just my opinion. Nothing more, though I would be pleased as a fan in they made Saints Row IV (The naming is funny, 2, The Third and now IV. XD) a perfect balance between 2 and the third.

3. 2 had better story and customisation and that's about it really. It was a shame to see some things go in the transition from 2 to 3, but I preferred it a fair bit more.

SR3 was better than SR2 in a lot of ways but in the end I need to look at which one i replayed more and had more fun with. For that I have to go with SR2.

Saints row 2 for all of the reasons that have already been stated. Really, you can't go wrong with either game. SR 3 felt like it had more padding in it than SR2 and I found 2's story to be much more involving than 3's.

SR:TT is my favourite. It's one of the few games I've actually had to pause because I was laughing so much at certain points. I've been playing the series since the first one came out (Christ, that was a while ago now), and I love the fact that Volition have moved away from "GTA-for-360-till-GTA-IV-comes-out"/generic "GTA-clone" style of game to really making it its own distinct flavour of sandbox. Do I think SR:TT did everything right? No, course not, I'm not a blind fanboy here. I miss the level of clothes customisation, I miss "Cops" and "Septic Avenger", I miss Gat (GAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!! Man, fuck Carlos! :D). But from this article http://www.destructoid.com/saints-row-iv-has-a-f-ck-ton-more-content-than-sr3-249217.phtml it sounds like they're putting in a crapload more side missions and covering the map in collectibles.

In short, I can't freaking wait.

I enjoyed the larger amount of customization from 2, along with the story.

3 was fun, but to quote Yahtzee, it was equative to playing with your own snot.

For me, it's close between Saints Row 2 and Saints Row 3, but I gotta give it to 2 for better plot.

I've only played 2 and 3, since 1 isn't available on PS3.

Also, I'm looking forward to 4.

I say the first one was better.

Haven't played The Third; but as much as I enjoyed SR2 it felt more than a little ropey compared to the first.

How? The graphics were downgraded (and given a high gloss filter to disguise it), the gunplay is LESS functional, the controls are mostly the same, the customization was cut way down, the animation still looks like videogames, the story was pissed away, the voiceacting got worse, combat was filled with bullshit stunlock enemies, the cars have modern controls for PS2-era physics (worse), and all the best stuff is spoiled right off the bat.

SR2 is amazing, SR3 was poop

I INTENDED to start the series with 2, but the gamestop employee accidentally put SR1 in the case, so I played through about half of the game before getting the right disc

SR3 is much superior mechanically, but they only have a clown show lined up that stops being interesting two hours in.
While SR2 with it's awful engine keeps you coming back with a rather serious story, they do it in a silly way but there is meat on those bones.

SR2 is something GTA used to be, but they now went full depressing meanwhile Saints Row went full retard... we need a new boy on this block.

I played 2 and 3. Although liking them both i prefered number 2. It had way more custermisation options and i prefered the city in 2. Found way more buildings i could just walk into etc. I also lucked out with the pc port. I use ye olde Windows XP 64bit and it seemed to run alright on that, was just annoying that the quicktime bits are still displaying pc keys rather then a 360 controllers.

Ps: did try that gentleman of the row mod but for some reason having that installed wouldnt let me select some things at character creation so had to uninstall :(
