I didnt mind tennant, but I could never really take him seriously, especially when he would go into his "serious" moments....se him as barty crouch jr in Harry potter? I expected him to do the tounge flick thing have the time....

I always prefered Christopher eccleson

as for matt smith havnt seem much of him so I cant judge, I think I prefer him

Matt Smith is alright, but David Tennant is my favorite. Though I'd probably like Matt more if he didn't come with Karen Gillan, cause I can't stand her (she's hot, but can't act for crap). Anyway that's my two cents.

When people say "The Doctor", I can't help but think of Robert Picardo.

...I really shouldn't have voted. I never even saw an episode with Matt Smith in it, so I am terribly biased. Oh well. Too late to take it back. Is to too late to throw in Christopher Eccleston and maybe even the guy who played the 4th Doctor just to kick things up?

Chris Eccleston for me as well. Smith is not bad, Tennant was good, but Eccleston was my personal favorite.

David Tennant will always be my first Doctor, as one of his episodes was the first time I ever experienced Doctor Who, but I have to admit that Matt Smith is better.

Although, for me, the David Tennant/Russell T. Davies era and the Matt Smith/Stephen Moffat era are barely comparable and I enjoy both equally for different reasons.

I've suggested before that they get rid of her and just have the Doctor and Rory travelling around.

Tennant hands down. Eccleston as a very very close second. Smith can't even compare to either though. I loved the sort of fun-loving Doctor that David played, but when he really showed through was in moments when he showed off his bad side.

The 4th Doctor was played by Tom Baker, just to let you know, and you can definitely see elements of his craziness in Smiths' performance, so I think Matt's stronger on the mad, unpredictable humourous side of the Doctors' personality, but I think David Tennant put across a better performance for the darker, more serious aspects, the critical make or break, live or die moments, making this a bloody hard one to call.

I rank Matt Smith above even the classic doctors, so it'll have to be him. I dunno why exactly, I guess it's a mix of the wacky craziness that seems a lovely throw-back to the older series, and the fact that Steven Moffat's writing is such a refreshing change from the never-ending RTD that came before. The Lodger remains my second favourite Doctor Who episode ever (just behind Blink, naturally), and I'm quite enjoying this season, although I am hoping they leave Amy and Rory (despite my love for Rory) behind now and move on to a new set of companions. Don't get me wrong, I loved Tennant as an actor, but by the end of his reign I was getting a little sick of the fellow.

Well, it's hard to judge, really. Apart from Billie Piper, I couldn't fault the acting of any of the main characters...but the writing varies from "bad" to "kill it with fire".

I liked Tennant better, because his epic fail stories weren't as bad as Smith's, but that's not anything to do with him.

Can I have option 3)Sylvester McCoy?
I was just about to say that.

He was the Doc when I was a lad in the 80's .... and Ace was the best Doctor companion.

Christopher Eccleston.

I want a more serious, dark doctor. I know its meant to be a fun show, but the sinister is just more entertaining to me.

no Chris Eccleston but Matt smith I found David soppy acting a bit to cheesy at point and didn't fit well when he was jolly, in other words he seemed more two faced either sobbing his eyes out or being silly.
