I just finished the original Stargate movie, and I'm a regular viewer of SG-1, so I was wondering the public opinion about who makes a better Jack O'Niel: Kurt Russel or Richard Dean Anderson.

Richard Dean Anderson is a god among men, and I will murder, WITH MY TEETH AND A RUSTY BUTTER KNIFE, anyone who says otherwise.
So, yes, I preferred him as O'Neil.

O'Neill is better. (If you don't get it, watch closer. O'Neil was in the movie, O'Neill was in the series, RDA points that out a few times, for example, with the line "That's with 2 L's, there's an O'Neil in the airforce too, and he has NO sense of humour."

They are still considered the same character canonically, but still.

yeah i was going to suggest this, the RDA O'Neill has 2 L's in his name, the Kirk Douglas one has only 1 L

Richard Dean Anderson is the bomb. He just made O'Neal for me.

When I was watching the original Star Gate, as much as I do love that movie, I kept thinking of Snake Pliskin when Kurt Russel was on the screen. That was how awesome Escape From New York was.

OK, I don't want to sound like 'that guy', but...

Chuck Norris.

I just think that, given the sorta character O'Neil is, Chuck Norris, a master of Kung Fu, would just look and sound cooler doing it.

Well, I think Kurt Russell is the better actor, but I like the funny, self-depreciative Dean-O'Neill better than the tough guy Russell-O'Neil. Dean was definitely better for the TV series.

I've only seen the movie, so Kurt Russel (Assuming it was him from the poll options.)
Also, I have no idea who the other one is. but I really want to watch the movie again.
right after I play some more Gmod.

The other one, as you so ignorantly call him, is freaking McGyver. That's who he is.

Richard Dean Anderson all the way. After watching all the seasons, I kept reading that he phoned in the last season or two that he was in. I honestly can't say I noticed. Ben Browder (Cameron Mitchell) couldn't fill his shoes no matter what, despite the fact that I loved him as John Crichton in Farscape. On the upside, Claudia Black (and her accent) also moved from Farscape to SG-1, so that helped... :)

Means nothing to me. I don't know who McGyver is.
So I'm sticking with my choice of Movie-man.

I thought Kurt Russell was a bit too stiff to be a likeable character, but it kinda fits considering the backstory and all that.
So Richard Dean Anderson, all the way.

Also, isn't RDA's O'Neill a Brigade General or something like that by now?

I almost feel sorry for Kurt Russel, he's no match for good ol' Dick.

I'm not sure about the exact rank, but one thing's for sure, he's reduced to a high rank paper-pusher. I almost wept when they showed him in Stargate: Universe, all chubby and covered in medals. That's not the O'Neill I know and love! Gods I hate SG:U.

Well, I'm glad that I haven't played that, so my image of O'Neill remains intact (phew!).
My sympaties for your horrific experience, though.

Richard Dean Anderson.

I haven't watched all of the series', but I used to watch the (endless) random episode re-runs on Sky, and O'Neill was incredibly funny and self-depreciating. Maybe that's why I liked him more, being able to take the piss out of yourself is quite a British trait so made him more likeable than Kurt Russell's version.

Richard Dean Anderson of course. I just keep thinking of the episode where the day would loop over and over. He was hilarious.

That's my favourite episode.

What's this?
My Resignation
But why?
So I can do this...

It's only going to be Anderson, for one he MacGuyver. For another he had more personality than Russell, as much as I loved him in the Thing, he was a bit too dead pan in this one.
