Poll: Who Shall Rule Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms?

I know a lot of people here are fans of A Song of Fire and Ice(Game of Thrones) so I thought it'd be a fun thread for everyone to basically share who they think should rule Westeros and sit the Iron Throne. Please use spoiler tags for those who haven't read everything yet.

Spoiler: My choice is...

I've read all the books currently out and I'm nearly certain that Daenerys Targaryen is the best option for Westeros at the end of Dance of Dragons. Daenerys is the only potential monarch left that is not a total disaster. She has both experience and enough idealism to unite Westeros under one Ruler and restore some semblance of peace. The Barethons have utterly failed in every respect as far as ruling is concerned even under Kind Robert the Iron Throne was in the Red financially. That and Daenerys is probably the one the prophecy from the Red Religion speaks of, not Stannis.

It seems like Martin is setting up for Danaerys to rule, which really upsets me because I find her annoying and her chapters horribly boring. Ideally I would have had Stannis take the throne with Ned ruling as king in the north for the most stable and sensible kingdom, but we can't always have what we want.

I think you are probably right about Dany being the only one left who could actually rule without everybody dying.

Other: Dorne and House Greyjoy come into an agreement, splitting Westeros in half. The north becomes the den of the kraken whilst all of the Highgarden is engulfed in desperate fighting. In the end Daenerys may end up landing but Kings Landing and much of the coast will have been destroyed.

That's how I see it playing out. Personally, I can't wait until the next book.

Its actually really quite funny if you know a bit about GRRM. When he was young, he grew up in Bayonne New Jersey and the only pets he was allowed to have were turtles. Pet store turtles being the boring, somewhat short lived creatures they are, he would entertain himself by making up stories of palace intrigue and political assassination involving his turtles and a plastic castle in the terrarium.

Pretty good joke huh? Feel free to use it.

I actually don't know who I want to rule the 7 Kingdoms, there are too many moving parts to the story for me to say one group or another because the actions of one group have an impact on the other groups, which can change the situation completely.

It's pretty obvious Targaryen will end up on top.

You've got slow moving creatures that can only be killed by fire and amass in concentrated groups and pose the largest threat the realm has ever faced.

And now you've got some lady with dragons, giant flying creatures that breathe fire.

Gee, I wonder what will counter the White Walkers?

It certainly seems to be moving towards a Targaryen victory, but given the scarcity of the scions, and the... oddity of the consequences of having the Targaryen family reassert control, I doubt they'll survive the victory, or at least live far past it. Some rulership will likely rise out of whatever the Targaryen power base looks like at that time.

Of course, it being ASoIaF, it's not going to be as simple as 'person X gets the throne'. The nature of the power behind the throne, and the changes in standing among the houses also have to be included in the calculus of victory.

Personally, I'm hoping that Littlefinger doesn't undo himself and lose in ignominy. He's a slimy bastard, yes, but he's played the game so well so far, showing up very sparingly and shaping the big events and consolidating power while staying out of the line of fire, that if he has to go, which he may or may not, I hope it's nothing so cliched as overreaching himself, or being undone by his weakness for the Stark women. If he has to meet his end, let it be being outplayed at his own game, or just something awesome and unexpected - otherwise it's a wasted opportunity.

Just to clarify is this about who we think SHOULD rule? Or who we think WILL rule?

Because considering the series is called A Song of Fire and Ice I think it seems like dragons (plus rollo?) vs white walkers.

I suppose I would like the Lannisters to win. I think Jamie would be a superb leader with Tyrion as the hand.

This whole time, it looked like Daenerys was being set up to come in dragons blazing and seize the seven kingdoms in the end, but knowing the author, I wouldn't be surprised if she gets slaughtered right before that happens. He's good at doing exactly the opposite of what you expect like that.

Honestly if this series doesn't end with some kind of citizens revolt like the French Revolution I'm going to be pretty upset.

I'm not certain. Previously, I would have liked Robb to win but looking back, I realise he was a breathtaking nonentity and other than he was the "good guy" there was no real reason to support him. If it were possible, I'd like to see Tyrion win. I think he would make a good king because he's got the brains to do it and he might be a bit more sympathetic to the ordinary people because he knows how it feels to be marginalised. Either that or I'd love to see Martin throw a curve ball and have Shireen become ruler or something. As has been said before, a lot of signs point towards Danaerys becoming queen, but:

Her nephew Aegon, (if he really is her nephew) is still alive so he might become king. And he would actually be the rightful heir.

However, nobody in the ASoIaF universe has plot armour so there's no telling how it'll turn out.

Daenerys takes the south, ruling with Tyrion as her hand, while Jon Snow, reborn via Melisandre (and apparently maybe also a Targaryen? According to fan theories, anyway) and free of the Night's Watch after "the day he dies", taking the North.

Anyone else think GRRM's spoiling to draw comparisons to the Nazis? I mean, here we have the targaryans, who are apparently better than everyone else, at least to the extent that they have magic fireproof skin (along with very blonde hair), being the Mary Sue group in a story where everyone else is "one step forward, two steps back". And they seem destined to win out in the end, 'cause Divine Right or something.
