I've been playning paradox's games for about two years now and I just love the company and the grand stratagey games they put out. I think they are totally under rated and I'm putting this up to see howmany paradoxers we have our there!

They have developed the Hearts of Iron seris, trhe Europa Universalis seris, Victoria, and other grand stratagey titles

Maybe you could list some of the games they make in your op for those of us who dont always pay too much attention to the developers listed on the box.

Well, for starters, Hearts Of Iron 2 and 3, which I both enjoyed.

And that's it. I've played Mount & Blade but they only published that soo... yeah.

I'm confused, what are we talking about? If you haven't figured out yet I voted "who?".

The company is not under-rated, the genre they make games in is, Paradox is very well known in the grand strategy genre, not that they have much competition but still, they're not making FPS's or stuff like that...

that being said they make excellent games most of the time imo

Europa Universalis, Hearts of iron, Victoria were all excellent series (except HoI3, my opinion...)

A few years back they also started to publish, which brought us back Majesty (YAY!) and other games from small developpers, which is a good thing.I also quite like Gamersgate (their online selling portal)

I've completed a Paradox 900. CK:DV -> EU2 -> Vic:R -> HoI2DD. Sweden was the world's only superpower when I was done.

Only the greatest developer not named Bethesda Game Studios ever to grace the PC. (and I say that only because I have Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 all ranked ahead of HoI2 and Victoria on my all-time best games list.)

Europa Universalis III was crap. I played as Incas and then as one muslim nation (I don't remember the name). It's now obvious to me that the devs wanted me to choose an European nation (granted, the game's name was Europa Universalis...) Well anyway:

What the hell? I can't build ships?
What the hell? European tech advancement speed is 1 while Incas have a speed of 0.1?
What the hell? I can't advance from the Tribal political-stage?
What the hell? "Accept Westernization"? BUT MY COUNTRY IS THE WESTERN WORLD!

Editing the game files to make the game friggin' playable isn't my idea of fun. Well, I did that. Oooh, the game got so much better... wait, what's that? Persia beat my army of 10 000 infantry with 5000 cavalry while factors like generals and military tech was quite equal or in my favor? Oh, okay, let's try beating their army of 7000 infantry with my 5000 cavalry. If it worked for them, it must work for me, oh wait, no, my forces were slaughtered. Ooh, I got an idea! Let's see what happens if I load an earlier save but fight the battles as the Persians? Oh look, this time whatevermynation'snamewas massacred the Persians. Could it be that the AI is a cheating bastard? Pffft, impossible.

I liked Hearts of Iron II though. Maybe that was because the battle system was a lot more fair and clearer.

Wait...

so I can't say "I played one of their games but it sucked"?

I have to insult myself?

Paradox fanboys are very defensive...

I liked Hearts of Iron 2, but really there are lots of things wrong with it, especially the UI design (sliders!), and since pretty much all of those got worse with HoI3, and some of the things that did eventually get resolved with Doomsday (for a start the auto-management of the many millions of sliders) somehow managed to disappear.

I'm sure there might be fun strategy in there somewhere, but the UI and learning cliff basically make it not worth my time any more.

I have mount and blade open right now... go knigdom of the rhodok rebels :D

Mount and blade is basically oblivion with more precise controls and larger battles. Also sieges. They rock.
