When ever there is a worst movies ever thred or movies you wish never exsisted thred or you can unmake X amount of movies thred the Star Wars Prequels are always there. Now I agree completely but nobody ever says why.

For example I hate basicaly every thing about them. I like the lightsaber fights but although they are very quick with lots of flips and twirls they have none of the impact the original lightsaber fights had. This alone is not enough to save them.

The worst things about them are:
1. they ruined Yoda. Yoda was suppost to be so wise and powerful that he was beyond needing a lightsaber but then they go and give him one and it looks stupid.
2. The really, really, really, really bad love story. I was so happy when Anikan went all dark side because it ment I would not have to watch any more bad love story acting.

So what do you think? Have I missed anything out? If you actually liked them explain why?

And about the poll I picked Empire. One of the BEST MOVIES EVER.

EDIT: For the record I was 6 in 1996 when Lucas relesed the special editions and Episode 4 was the second movie I ever saw (The first being Toy Story) in a cinima and I was 9 or 10 when Episode 1 came out so I was the same age as the target audience but still hated it.

First, there was Jar-Jar, which in and of itself is a crime.
The tech in the prequels was more advanced than the tech in the original trilogy. I hated how flashy and flippy-twirly the lightsaber battles got, they looked more like gymnastic events than actual fights.
The story and dialogue were god awful, the 'love story' was laughable, and the explanation of the force was fucking idiotic.

I liked Episode 1 and 3. Yes Episode 2 was laughably awful with the "love story" and Anakin's angst.
I much prefer the impressive saber battles in the prequels than the original trilogy.

He covers most of the reaons I came up with when first watching the movies. And some more I consider overkill.

Forgetting the continuity for a moment, it was obviously a cynical cash grab. They completely failed on every level, there was no redeeming features about them whatsover.

The story sucked, the writing sucked, the worldbuilding sucked, the action scenes sucked, the romance sucked.

It's like that bit from Red Dwarf when Holly keeps telling Dave that person X is dead, due to everyone being dead[footnote]The novelisation played this bit serious, though, you can really see why the show didn't.[/footnote], except replacing person with "film element" and dead with "sucked".

I also picked Empire, 'cause it's awesome. A huge problem with the prequels is that none of the actors look like they're having fun (with the exception of Ian McDiarmid and occasionally Ewan McGregor). The originals were wonderful because the actors were truly human in an epic setting, whereas it appears that the actors of the prequels are trying to lend weight to a script that has none of its own to offer. Another is the CGI. Despite the cool shit we can do nowadays, the human eye can still discern the difference between CGI and practical effects. We inherently know that the actors and the monsters are spliced together and so there's no visceral tension, just pretty fireworks. There's more wrong with them, but that's all I care to think about at present. The prequels don't deserve more attention.

For the record, I don't really hate the prequels. The first one's not all that bad from a personal perspective.

But all three movies just kinda lost what made the original Star Wars interesting. The prequels had none of the cool, memorable characters, and they essentially changed everything that we thought was true. Suddenly everyone's using light sabres like they are some kind of god weapon, even the Sith (when the Emperor in the originals said that they were a Jedi weapon).

The thing about the prequels is that they simply ruined everything. Lightsabers are supposed to be powerful weapons, used by only those who have mastered them. In the prequels, and due to the amount of jedi in the film, lightsabers lose their touch because of how prolific they are; something is "cool" or "awe-inspiring" if everyone and their grandmother uses one.

They also ruined the force. I don't even need to explain. Midichlorians were BS and someone should have punched George Lucas out before the scripts were even complete. It ruined the mystery of the force, and instead turned it into some sort of biological "one-ness" with the universe.

Some characters were killed off in stupid ways, some characters were written to make the most f**king stupid choices, simply because George Lucas couldn't think up any other way for it to work. Mace Windu (Samuel L Jackson's character) could've easily killed the emperor, but did he? Nope. He stood there like a mook until it was his turn to die. Anakin? Well, he's just a pussy ***** who doesn't deserve anything, much less the title of Darth Vader. He was supposed to be a good man turned evil, but it ended that he was a douchebag turned evil.

Also, the love story was one of the worst love stories ever depicted in a movie.

Mostly because it feels like they are all reading teleprompters, noone gave a two shits how their lines were delivered.
Then we got Anakin Crywalker, ping-pong ball Joda, and there was the Force bacteria... real nice one, and ofcourse Jar-Jar what a lovely character.

I actually don't hate the Star Wars prequels

Thing is I wasn't around for the original trilogy due to my whole not being born yet. As such the prequels were the star wars movies that I grew up with. I cannot hate them because they were what introduced me to the entire series, and I have remained a diehard fan of the whole mythos since then. (hell im wearing an x-wing shirt now)

See I know that there were problems and I never did enjoy Jar Jar but It still doesn't bother me. I was a kid when I saw the prequels so I didn't give a crap about the flaws, I instead enjoyed them for what they were without overthinking too much about every little detail that went against the originals.

I do love the original trilogy don't get me wrong I just do not hate the prequels, they are so much better than many movies made today and I feel no one gives them enough credit.

Also my favorite of the originals was Return. Empire was extremely good as well, but I feel 4 was the weakest of the three.

This is all just my opinion though.

I didn't hate the prequels (only ever watched phantom menace).
I did, however, despise the first of the original series (IV).

One of the things I hated the most about the Prequels was Episode 1. It was just pointless. I mean, sure, it gave us Qui Gon and Darth Maul (both are freaking badass) but everything else could be summed up with "Sith are back, here's Anakin". They should have started with the story of Episode 2, to give them more time to show Anakin's fall to the Dark Side.

Episode 3 was by far the worst story-wise, because of how they did Anakin's fall. One moment he's a goody goody who'd sacrifice his life for his friend, the next moment Anakin's trying to kill him. What?

Nothing wrong with Return, had some of the best scenes in Star Wars. The speeder bike chase on Endor, Jaba the Hutt, Slave Leia. Returns only problem was that they decided to use ewoks instead of a full wookie slave army. Also it had the best lightsaber fight out of all of them aaand green is my favorite lightsaber color. Shit do I like Return..

I don't.
Infact, in terms of action and watchability if you are not a star wars nerd, The prequals are MUCH better.

Yeah, the original had story, but I can't watch them whenever. I can watch the prequals whenever, though.

The whole romance plot, simply because, to quote yahtzee:
'Saying Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman had chemistry is like saying that putting a chair on top of another chair is hardcore pornography' (something like that anyways).
This made it really cringe-worthy and just bad, other than that, yeah I thought they were pretty cool, enjoyed most of the action scenes and I thought Ewan McGregor was alright. Plus the soundtrack was typically brilliant for John Williams, especially:

I like the prequels movies.

Unfortunately, there is a ton within them that is badly done or takes away from what could have been greatness. Much of it is just dozens/hundreds of nit-picks aside from the Episode 2 in which the first half of the movie is very boring and needs a complete redo.

Yoda fighting was one of the few things I liked in the prequels.
George Lucas has a natural ability to turn things to crap. He could be steered away from that when he was starting out, but with the power he has now in the industry there is nothing to stop him from getting his vision out, and his vision is what you saw in the prequels.

Man, I wrote an entire article on another thread detailing why I don't like them, and why I believe the third one is the worst out of the lot. Short answer is that those movies took canon and shot it out of a cannon. If you want, I'll go dig up the thread and post the link.

Star Wars not being my area of geekery, Jar-Jar didn't offend me that badly, I didn't even pay the slightest attention to the midichlorian stuff and any continuity problems went way over my head. That said, the writing and the acting...horrible. Just beyond fucking laughable. The writing wasn't exactly stellar in the original trilogy and the acting...varied, but jesus were the prequels bad.

I guess those who like the prequels usually do so for the spectacle and the lovely lightsaber fights, but it just makes me angry to think how good these films could have been if they'd hired a decent screenwriter and cast literally any other entity on the planet instead of Hayden Christensen.
