Poll: Why the Swedish legal system sucks

I (a regular dude from Sweden, more precise, the capital= Stockholm) recently read an article in the newspapaer about a 12 year old girl that was abused sexually at a park. I continued to read about the person who was responsible, it was a 40-50 year old man, nothing out of the ordinary rape articles, which had just been aquitted out from jail.

He had 2 years before the rape MURDERED a woman with a knife. Then he had been locked up in jail for 2 years before getting out.
2 FRICKIN YEARS, for murder.

I personally think that Sweden is a country that is very kind, forgiving and sympathetic, but we are also the biggest wimp ever when it comes to legal processes.

As an example I can tell you that I recently watched a video from a town in Africa where they burned 2 peaple alive for stealing potatoes. Quite a contrast, right?
I know this example is a bit extreme but you get the point.

What do you think of this?

I'd be careful about judging the entire legal system based on just that one case.

Clearly someone didn't do their job, at all. And such a thing certainly is a disaster, no question about that. But the question is where the blame needs to be.

Did the judge in question receive any consequences after this disaster due to a serious error in judgment?
Was the rapist considered mentally unstable and did his psychiatrist fail to provide an accurate report?
What penalties are possible within the Swedish law concerning these serious crimes?
What measures are being taken once a person leaves jail to prevent recidivism?

I'd say someone fucked up big time, but who?

well no shit. I remember a case 4 or 5 years ago when a man murdered a small child and got lifetime imprisonment (5 years, herp) and got out after 2 years for good behaviour.

in communist sweden everyone gets a "lagom" prison sentence.

Yes I sincerely believed that this was something which was only a one time thing, I thought that years ago.
This happens all the time, people commmit murder and then get out after a fraction of the time they should be locked up.

Just as another example I can tell that 2 juveniles killed an ex and only got to split 3 years in jail, for under aged people of course (can't remember the english word for it, sorry!)


Concerning the man who raped the child, I do not know the details about his mental condition nor if someone fucked up on the previous case. Nor do I not know what happened to the judge.
Also, when it comes to serious crimes here in Sweden generally everyone gets classified as mentally unstable..

The sentence of lifetime inprisonment in Sweden is a bit vague according to me. You are generally locked up for 20+- years and if your behavior is good you can get your time cut down to around 10+ years.

About your last point I do not know of any measures that would prevent any more crimes being commited by the person.

But then again, I'm not so keen on all the details of our system.

Think of it this way. Your legal system might at least have consistancy. Try living in a place that is probably very often in contradiction with itself, where BOTH of the kinds of things you specified can happen within the same borders. That's the one of the drawbacks of being a melting pot nation: You get EvERYTHING mixed in, including ridiculously extreme punishments and spineless softballs judgements. As a whole, American justice could look very much like tangled fishing line at times.
