I seem to see a lot of hysteria coming out of the media regarding the colorado shooting. Most of it being "Are theaters safe anymore?". Now this has got me thinking if this will affect people's decision to go to the theaters and with the dark knight rises at the center of the shooting, will it make people not go and see it?

First Saucy, LOVE The Cat Returns avatar.

And it will certainly make people not go, some of the people more inclined to believe the media. Some people will probably never even go to a theater again cause "It's not safe!"

But I doubt it will scare off all Dark Knight Rises fans from going.

I'm certain that there will be a drop in the amount of money the movie would have made from this...but whether it will be enough to make too much of a difference...well that remains to be seen

I had tickets for 9am today, I almost considered not going cause well yeah, feeling really bad for the victims and the whole thing in general sucked all the fun out of it.

In the end I went.

One dick made something like this tragedy happen, and it would be reasonable to think "Is it safe/ok?" I don't need to recant how many tragedies have happened that made people consider doing something else including not going outside because of what MIGHT happen because of one thing that HAS happened.

That being said, I'm not going to act anymore differently about this then anything else. I'm still going to see (and run) Dark Knight Rises. If I get scared and duck out, Evil has won. I am not going to be deterred by this, and I'm still going to go and see what might be considered one of the biggest movies of the year (Avengers and Moonrise Kingdom Aside).

I'm still going to see this movie.

Whilst very tragic, this has got the movie a lot of publicity, and if anything is going to remind people to go out and see it. If it's going to do anything it's going to kick off a massive debate on gun control that leads nowhere.

I chose no, because, while there may be a few morons that believe the media hype that lone gunmen are hiding out at all local theaters now; by and large, most of us are smart enough to realize this was a tragic but isolated incident, and that it has nothing to do with the movie itself.

Since 9/11 wasn't the end of air traffic I doubt this shooting will cause more than a hiccup on Dark Knight Rising income chart. It might lead to higher security standards and that's about it.

Hmm I don't think it will. Some people believe the media, but for most part people won't think that that sort of thing will happen in every theater. There might be a bit more security in theaters though. I'm going to see it tomorrow as part of my 21st birthday celebrations, I can't wait!

Should it? No. Will it? I have no doubt.

Some people will see it as the movie having evil violent undertones that turn anybody watching it into a sociopathic murderer. Luckily, they'll be the minority to the people who genuinely like Batman and want to watch the movie.

I don't necessarily think it will stop the majority of people going to see it. However, like Dark Knight is remembered as the film that 'made Heath ledger kill himself', Dark Knight Rises will be remembered as the film 'where that maniac shot a lot of people'.

Sad, but true.

Sadly those people do exist, but are they really the ones likely to see the movie in the first place?

I read about it that very night, got annoyed and a tad worried, but then went on the afternoon of opening day anyway. Heh, with protection.

Probably not. I didn't have plans to see it in the theatres anyways, just because it tends to be really expensive. :\

Well, a live shooting kinda adds a whole new dimension to the 3D aspects of cinema. Yeah, call me inconsiderate if you must, I know people died, but I just can't help but find it a bit I dunno, funny cause it had to happen in a Batman movie... It's like the Joker was behind it or something... I'm a Batman fan since a tender age.. so don't hold it against me. I don't normally go to cinemas, but knowing this incident, it wouldn't scare me from going if I wanted to. People do bad s--t to other people everyday. This is no different. Bad s-hit happens to decent folk... way of the world and all that. A cinema shooting is something lots of people in the world saw on the news. What about the other shootings that were happening in the world and went unmentioned, I'm pretty sure violence was not only in that theater at that particular hour. Come to think of it, knowing what s--t people do to each other on the planet, I should just stop going outside to be safe. Come to think of it, I don't go out much so this may actually be a good thing... go figure.. point is... you can't live in a bubble just because s-hit happens outside the bubble constantly.

On the contrary, I think it might bring more people in. There seemed to be a bit of a deficit of excitement surrounding the film since it wasn't getting totally stellar reviews and people were skeptical about Anne Hathaway, the lack of the Joker, etc. But now it's got some headlines, almost similar to the Heath Ledger situation in a way. I think a few more people will be interested in the movie people died trying to see.

I picked 'Madagascar 3' because I wasn't planing on seeing TDKR in the first place. (wasn't a fan of the first two Nolan Batman films)
