I also wonder what could be gained be excluding a large chunk of the population from a section of the forum. What are you going to discuss there? How good it is to be above the peasants?

One of the things I liked most about the escapist was the fact that it was free. Not just because I'm a cheapskate (Which I am, or more precisely, I'm against paying over the internet), but because it made everyone equal, and your title was awarded based on your contribution in words, not money. The only current feature that I would actually like is the Member only forums... And perhaps the member only content (but that really depends on what exactly the member content is).
But In the near future, I can see a divide forming between the two groups. The Paying 'elite' and the poor unpaying 'peasants' such as myself. Losing some of the features of the site I can live with, but not the most vital part if the site, The community spirit.
I guess I will have to wait and see.

High Quality Videos, for shows that last on average 8 minutes and come out once a week I see little use for it.

The ads here don't bother me.

The 'special' forum is troubling as I think it will cause a gap between members and may become an elitist forum. You have user groups for that in my opinion.

It's a no from me but it is a good business idea.

Call me cynical but, this seems like the creation of a whole new caste within the Escapist.
Count me out.

However, some people here did convince me of doing so. I really do love this site and everything it stands for, and I'd love to support it. I spend quite a bit of time on here, why shouldn't I pay the developers back for it?

The only thing I'm against is this special members forum. I really don't like the idea of the community splitting up like that.

I've never subscribed to a site's premium features, and this is no exception. Just seems like a load of rubbish, to be honest.

I can see why you're doing it, lads, but it's still disappointing to see premium features appearing on the site.

As much as I would love to right now it isn't a possibility for me. Sure I could probably afford it, it isn't much a year, but I have a ton of other stuff of needs to come first. Maybe later when I have my feet back on the ground.

Guys, just to reiterate: People who don't join the Publisher's Club will get the exact same Escapist-quality experience you've always gotten. It's just that some of the features we wanted to add (like high-quality video) are pretty time and resource intensive, and so that was the main benefit we're trying to offer here.

We will never NOT be developing the bulk of our content for everybody, as we've done before. This just lets us go a bit above and beyond for the people who help us keep the lights on

If it helps, think of it as us selling out - but to you guys ;P

I actually just signed up for it. I've never paid for web content before, and I don't care about any of the "perks" I'll get; it just makes sense as an investment in the future of the Escapist as we know and love it. This is after all a business that pays people to report on gaming, and to create ZP and all the other content we love--it would be great if we could keep getting it all for free, but that money has to come from somewhere. Better that it come from folks like me who love this site, and want to contribute to its community.

If I had an income stream, I would do it now, right away. The thing is, since I don't, I can't justify spending money on it to myself. $10 a year is an absolute steal for membership in pretty much any online community, but its the principal that matters.

Also, just found out today that I'll have to dish out £390 to fix my laptop so I'm not feeling all that great...
