So if you are gay and wish to have sex with a man in witcher 2, you can't. But there is an up side, you don't have to have sex with the woman ether.

This begs the question, don't we have a satisfiable amount of porn already (We can never have enough). I mean there are people who get paid specifically to give your right hand the impression of a ass or vagina.

OR do we want to implement porn into games, so then we dont have to leave our little world of F****** and Fighting. Though sometimes its necessary to bring about a certain romance towards another character to gain the connection to the person you are playing. For instance if the person you have selected as your romance or in general a lovable character and she/he gets killed bam there is drama and revenge and all that.

So lets draft away from my 12pm ramble and give me your view on Romance in games.

I think the fact that Geralt is straight is part of the world and character. I don't remember any homosexual adventures by him in the books or the first game, so I understand why gay romances are not a choice. It's like making you play as a homosexual Aragorn in a LotR-RPG.

Geralt is straight, he is an established character. I have no problem with him getting it on with the ladies. I'd hardly call them "romance options", though.

Well it's already pointed out that he's a straight man. This isn't an RPG where you create a character, you get to play as an established one.

Besides that, it's definitely not porn. Maybe softcore porn... I don't know... but it's definitely going to be fun(ny). I guess I'm not one who likes that "3D Porn" (ie: animated porn) but I suppose this game could satisfy a certain group of people who like that.

Now, if they did the LA Noire or Uncharted 2 approach with motion capture for the sex scenes... heh. That would be something!

But anyway, I don't see a reason why graphic sex should not be present in some games. I mean, I've said it's not really my thing - but maybe that's why I wouldn't mind? Obviously, not every game or even most games would benefit from having that, but for example I think God of War 3 might as well have gone ahead with that stupid QTE sex scene and just shown it all. They already had plenty of T&A, and possibly the most brutal violence yet besides maybe Mortal Kombat... what's a little sex show in a game like that? lol.

What the Witcher Geralt does is not Romances, but romps in the fields of delight. Plus, as said, he is already a defined character, straight male with white hair and crazy eyes. Take any of those out and you have someone who isn't Geralt.

Romance (or just sex, not really same thing) in games SHOULD be another way of interacting with NPCs. It can either add depth to a relationship, or just be amusing. Either way, I have no problem with it, as long as it's done well. Witcher 1 was fine in my opinion. Juvenile mostly, but still entertaining, and it didn't break immersion.

I am gay but when I play a game I don't automatically assume than my cluster of pixels is a woollie wuffta and if it is an established character such as Geralt I am more than happy to play him as he is written - and if that is a man-whore with a taste for the grilled cheese sandwich then so be it... I'll chow down.

I am all for writers placing gay characters into stories but it shouldn't be mandatory... if we don't start using our common sense it wont be long before those bastard gay lobby folk start complaining that Duke Nukem doesn't have a camp side or have the option of wearing foundation and manscara.

As it was said, Geralt is established character, his only love interest was Yennefer, they both are sterile tho, and well Yenne was about 94 years in books so in game she would be close to 100. Both also had several 'on the side' partners and didn't mind it, consider it polish fantasy specific if you want :p

As for sex scenes/romance in games in general - it's okay in movies as well as in books, why not games? If it fits the story, the context, the characters and is shown in 'proper' way it's no different than any other medium. If we are to treat games as a medium that is also aimed for mature audience we can't really skip that part of human interaction.

Geralt isn't a 'romantic' character so I'd worry if any of his fuck buddies could really be called romances.

Secondly, Geralt is straight. He's straight because that's a very important part of his character. He's a womaniser, it informs a lot of what he is.
Considering the fact that you can, as Geralt, deny every single female in the game save for Triss (Chapter 3's beginning, if you've played it) a sexual encounter and focus on your "main storyline" mission over said encounters.. he's only a "womanizer" if you accept the offers as frequently as they come up.

As for homosexuality in The Witcher.. yeah, it just wouldn't fit a character like Geralt. He's established as a straight man/mutant from the very beginning, and most of his friends within the storyline of the game are more akin to professional buddies most of the time then they are truly close relationship wise.

..As for calling The Witcher 2 a "porn" game? Central Europeans simply don't have the same sexual puritan history that much of the West has, and view sexuality and displaying sexuality in multimedia and media as simply being part of effective storytelling. Besides, you don't really enter The Witcher as a series and not know about the "boob cards" or the sex scenes or the in-game prostitutes unless you really haven't looked into the game at all whatsoever before buying/trying it.

If you want romance, go outside. If you want porn, surf the internet like a normal person. If you want to game, game. However, if the "romance option" serves a vital role in the formation of a storyline, then fine. But again, if you buy a game solely because the chica on the cover has a nice ass (Miranda), then you deserve to get smacked about.

The entire discussion is very silly for quite a few reasons. For one, as stated numerous times before, Gerald of Rivia is an established character from novels, short stories, graphic novels, a TV series, the Witcher 1 game etc. He is a white male, 100% heterosexual and a womanizer. Complaining there's no gay romance in the story is about as silly as me (a female gamer) complaining I can't play a female Geralt or a black gamer complaining he can't play a black Gerald.

As to the sexual content... I think the whole prudery thing silly. Sex is a part of life, we're all supposedly adults (the game is 18+) and if people have THAT big of a problem with mild nudity, they can always avoid it. Personally, I don't for the life of me see why anyone has an issue with it. Gory violence, torture and other nastiness are OK in games, but one naked boob and people go hysterical? Too weird. Never go to a Dutch beach in that case... and you might want to avoid our TV altogether.

Judging by the literature, TV, games and what's considered a scandal where, it's not just the Central Europeans... it most Europeans period.

Poland isn't exactly renowned for its progressive views on homosexuality.

I like romance in games if it's done well, like anything else really. I do very much appreciate having gay options though, being gay myself it can be hard to relate to and care about romancing a woman.

Ran into this issue playing Mass Effect as a female. I totally wanted to get it on with Miranda but that was denied to me.

In my mind, these games should play pretty loose with sexual orientation. They shouldn't make every character aggressive in pursuing a relationship with the player, but I think most characters should be open to it if that's how the player wants it. If a NPC's sexuality is part of the back story, you can easily make a straight or gay character bi for the benefit of the player.

*sigh* Perhaps it's just my eternal inner 18 year old horny gay teen...but oh how I wish Geralt could have been just a little bit Bi. Or perhaps just' give it a try' ya know...just once....

*smacks self*

Actually despite the lack of mano a mano I loved the Witcher 2. Then again I loved the books and the first game as well.

Yes but let's remember that Geralt is not gay. He just isn't, this has been established in the books. It's not homophobic to have a main character that's straight.
