DC changed Wonder Woman's origin in the new relaunch. She didn't used to have a father, but now she does. Some people think this takes away from her image as a feminist icon, but I disagree. I think she's still a role model for women, daddy or not? What do you folks think?

I wrote about it here: http://www.superheroesareawesome.com/wonder-woman-gets-a-daddy-but-dont-worry-folks-shes-still-a-feminist-2/

Wait, why would she not be a feminist anymore? Most feminists, in fact I would actually dare to say all feminists had a father in some sense.

Besides, Wonder Woman was created by a man, if having a father would discredit her, what about a male creator?

Are these "some people" made of straw, by chance?

Oh, and for those of you who didn't know, Wonder Woman's old origin had her made out of clay.
I liked that one better. Had more of a "made from the gods" thing going. This origin? Not a fan but I don't see why she still can't be a figure of Female strength. Afterall, strong, motivated and active women in real life need to have fathers or they wouldn't have been conceived XD

Femenism really means that you're interested in equality of the sexes. With women seeing so much more freedoms these days, I think we're at a stage where we should address where the opposite sex plays into individual identity and the likes.

But the article in question, which the article the OP links to itself alludes to, is more concerned with the ideas of the fact that WW was in this unique position of being a woman whose identity was defined by her life in a society without the male influence. More to the point, Wonderwoman was able to just be herself, without having to deal with growing up in all that gender-based stuff that most people have to deal with.

They aren't arguing that this is a dealbreaker for the character, just that it has the potential to alter a unique part of what makes Wonderwoman Wonderwoman.
I mean, how often do you see characters in fiction who were raised in an entirely female society?
And then try to count how many of them aren't these hyperfemenine, socially inept around males or downright horny as fuck?

Starfire's going to be the subject of one of my later posts. Man, the uproar over her has been huge.

little justified i think, sure she's had modesty issues, but she's never been a slut. slut is never a good direction to take a character, more so when its one that's been around for a long time

Wonder Woman was/is a feminist icon? I thought she was just another "sexy" comic book character. I thought she was pretty much the opposite of a feminist icon, a character made by a male dressed in skimpy clothes for the enjoyment of other males.

Now don't jump down my throat, that's just what I thought. I have never read her books or anything, so admittedly I don't know what I am talking about.

I always thought the clay origin was great. But this one can work too, it's not exactly her having a father figure, rather it's Zeus raping her mother (or so I've been told, correct me if I'm wrong). I can see how that might make her a bit aggresive initially against men.

Nothing says feminism like a sexy hot busty half naked woman(or rather now in tight pants) that will never be better or more popular than superman, green lanterns (which has better feminist icons) and im not even gonna say batman.

She was created by a guy who was a manbitch(and his wife) and thought women should rule the world because they're better and more trustworthy (and the fact the other three were dominating the market and he had to have something different so why not ride the popularity of the feminist movement)

Also so he could exercise his bondage fetish.

Dc trying to preach women empowerment over being sex icons in general is a joke. Example catwoman 52
They know their main fanbase....
