It's not addictive at all, in fact, it's one of the most boring things ever, and always seemed like a chore that had nothing to do with skill at all.

It's a game, nothing more. Anybody who says otherwise is a weak-willed idiot, desperately finding excuses rather than dealing with their own inadequacies and failings. If you think you're addicted, see a shrink. Or get a xenuscan, if you don't believe in shrinks.

I have a highly addictive personality and have to rule out any contact with this game. I'd love it, i know, but it would (due to myself) destroy my life.

It's a game. You really have to have an addictive personality to not only get caught in the available time sinks, but also not realize that you really can stop playing at any moment. Even if your character dies, it's barely even a setback.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
it can be pretty addictive but I dont subscribe to the idea of game addiction being like drug addiction

it's addictive if you get into it (pretty much like anything) but lacking the chemicals needed to actually be a drug

Games aren't addictive, people have addictive personalities. I played WoW casually for quite a long time, but put it down when I felt like it. If you are "addicted" to WoW, it's your fault, and not the game's.
Drugs have chemicals that make them addictive, where no video game does.

Its a game... and i find all good games addictive, its nothing special unless you just forsake your life to play the game. I'd say it varies person to person.

Yes. I play, Yes I still enjoy a so called 'normally' acceptable life.

Now please stop telling my my hobby is abnormal because I might become drawn in by it like every other hobby out there.

Chemically inducing things are addictive. WoW is a hobby, and as with all hobbies they can be dangerous if done too much. Be responsible with your gaming.

Part of it isn't addiction as such.. its the timeless-ness of it. Back when I played I thought hell, I'll just get this little thing done... then realize I'd just lost 3 hrs of my time. My fault? most certainly! I was young then, but even so it can eat your life... If you let it. the key to this thing is if you've actually got willpower or not. If your the or not person... I'd say don't play. if you do have self control, go right ahead.

I don't buy the "addictive personality" shtick I played WoW on and off for 4 years and frankly it was nothing to put it down and do something else, I'm beginning think "addictive personality" is code for unemployed or student sure its a fantastic time sink but addictive? No chance, being comfortable with something is not the same thing as being addicted it's easy to fall into a routine of wake up, boot wow - 12 hours pass, go to sleep, repeat if you have nothing else going on in your life, but from a former smoker of 5 years nothing about about it racks your body or mind to the point of bad withdrawal maybe boredom at best.

Not picked up a cigarette in a year and a half and still get the craving to spark up if I get so much as a whiff.

"Addictive personality" is code for lazy, spineless, obsessive individual with an inability to manage time or self.
That's not "code." It's exactly what we're referring to.

Are you under the impression that it's an excuse?
