If anyone here is a fan of Max Brook's "World War Z" (or "Zombie Survival Guide", for that matter), you might be happy to know that a screenplay for a film adaptation is currently in the works by J. Michael Straczynski for Plan B Entertainment, with production set to start in 2009.

Anyone else here a fan of the book? Excited about the premise of seeing it become a movie? Have any thoughts of surviving the zombie apocalypse in general?

Oh, and of course, some leaked concept art for the battle of Yonkers: http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/photosizer/upload/wwz012709.jpg

I've read the 'Zombie Survival Guide' and thought it was pretty funny/awesome... but I don't know what's going on right now. I'll end up watching it at some point as it has potential.

I "read" the audio book last night, as something is delaying the copy I ordered. I enjoyed it very much.

Heres to hoping they don't try to do the whole book in one movie... it seemed to be one book that would benefit from several movies set at the same time, a la half life + opposing forces + blue shift + that other one

Hopefully, it'll be good - WWZ was a great book. On that note, I'm off to shoot Uwe Boll as insurance.

Fantastic. I love both of those books. I'm looking forward to this. Cheers for the heads-up.

i've been a fan of the book since i first laid eyes on it, so naturally the movie will never live up to it, but i'm probably going to watch to see how they turn this "diary" of sorts into a movie.

Own the book and have read it a few times.
The people of IRC know I'm a freak for zombies, so hell yes I am excited for this.

Apparently the way they're going to tie it all into one story is follow the guy writing the book as the main character, which I have somewhat mixed feelings about.

I think it would have been cool to just see a series of well made vignettes, but I guess the continuous plot thing is sort of a necessity for the motion picture.

Even so, the value of this movie as a spectacle should be obscenely high. Absolutely can't wait for it to come out.

Hmm, I dunno, I'm not sure the book would work in it's current form as a film.. Okay, so it might do (and going for the vignette method would at leats give some element of uniqueness) but that probably wouldn't be mainstream enough for the Hollywood machine.

I wonder how they'd do the zombies. Seeing that the trend these days is for the "fast" variety, while World War Z makes it quite clear it's zombies are of the slow, shuffling variety.

I'm really looking forward to Island of the dead. It's George (what ever his second name is) new film, apparently it's going to be good.

I always pictured the battle of Yonkers taking place at night. Oh well, it just looks even cooler in my head.

I really hope they imitate the style of the book and make it like a documentary, rather than just a straight up linear action movie.
