Here's a question. If you had the chance to save the world. Let's say that some evil force from outside our universe came and you were the only person who could save the world. Would you do it? Why or why not? Would you do it happily or would you grumble about it?

I personally would, but barely. To be honest, it'd take a lot of goading to do it. It sounds jerk-a**ish, but I can't help but have nothing but disdain for 99% of the world nowadays. Sure, it's generalized, but after everything I've seen and heard in my 22 years on this earth, I can't help but feel a generalized hatred of just about everything.

Neither of these would matter though. I'd be delighted. Any time.

If it was as easy as "okay, I'll do it", and it's done, then sure I'd do it.

Somehow, I doubt it would be that easy. Instead, I'd probably have to exert a lot of effort, and would likely die in the process.

I'd try my best! I'm pretty shy and cautious by nature but I've found out that I have a fierce protective streak in me when I have to. Besides, it's not like I could just opt out - if they're trying to destroy the world, I do have to live here!

Plus I might end up with cool powers, and that would just be too awesome for words.

Yep. I would. Even if I died in the process. Why? Even though there are horrible people in the world, there are those who are caring, kind and save others. My life is nothing compared to everyone elses.

Do I need to have some kind of impressive skills or something, why am I the only one who can do it? If it has to be me for the simple sake of it being me then I'd imagine I'd go and do it. Like only I can push the button for some reason. If I needed to stealthily invade places and do things generally out of my range of ability, then probably not, I'd just end up being killed.

Well, on the one hand, I pretty much hate all of humankind because while humans are fine on the individual level, as a whole, we are jerks. But on the other hand, if the world is destoryed, where would I live?

Tough call, but I'm saving the world, if only so I have a place to live and to secure bragging rights.

If I was in a position of enough political or personal power to influence the outcome of the events, I would, in the following order:

- Become a mediator and negotiate the terms of surrender to outside menace, so as to secure a future for myself (Dr. Breen style).

- Failing negotiation, I would stop the menace and use the measure of my success to leverage the influence required establish new order in the destabilized aftermath of the conflict.

Of course, realistically - having no significant power or influence - I would be one of the cannon fodder NPCs in this setup, rather than the player character. /geek

(Also, realistically, the switch between opportunist or hero would probably be thrown in accordance to whether certain family and friends are alive and could survive - like BabyTea said.)

It wouldn't take much goading for me because as much as I dislike the state of the world, I bet both of us would get our asses in gear in the name of self preservation. Plus I bet I'd get a lot of money and sex after saving the world from certain doom, and who doesn't want that?
