I was inspired by this amazing thread I read on a travel forum.

http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/50799-Democratic-Republic-of-Congo-Lubumbashi-to-Kinshasa

Your path:

Your vehicle:

- You have $10,000 USD in cash
- You can bring one (1) person with you, but he or she has to be someone you personally know (sorry, no Bear Grylls)
- You can bring one weapon
- You have GPS, maps, compass, and a satellite phone
- Your vehicle is fully stocked with enough food, medicine, supplies and fuel for 30 days; everything after that is up to you

When you reach Cape Town, South Africa, you get $1 million (tax-free) and are flown back to your country. If at any time during your trip you want to give up, you will be rescued by helicopter and flown back, but you don't get the money, regardless of how far you made it.

Before you answer, keep in mind the skills that you have: physical, technical, and linguistic (French is probably the most valuable language to know in Africa), and those of the person you are bringing with you.

I've lived in Africa... and it'll take a damned sight more than $1m to get me to go back there!

Actually, as long as you plan ahead and pick the roads you're traveling on, I don't think completing this will be all that hard. That is, if your car doesn't break down.
I've been to Africa and it's not quite as dangerous or hazardous of a place then most people think it is.

so yeah I'll do it, Hell I'll even do it for free, as an all expenses paid adventure vacation.

Hell yes I would, I would just brush up on my high school French and go for it!

In fact, I might do it even if I don't get the million at the end. I love adventure!

1. Accept this mission
2. Drive for a couple of hours (sight-seeing)
3. give up
4. $10.000 profit

Sure! Be a nice vacation. See some awesome wild life, and maybe learn a thing or two. I would probably go buy supplies for all the aid camps though. They need it.

Yeah...you probably don't have to give me 1 mil. $ to do that as well.

I think you should read that travel thread. It took that couple 2 months just to cross one country, and even though it was an amazing experience, it was also full of crappy roads and unsavory people who took their money.

People are underestimating how easy this would be. Africa outside of the tourist areas is quite different.

I dont know who I'd bring, it'd be my Dad or my older brother, not sure which. I'd want an Uzi 9MM providing I have infinite ammo. I'd also want the option to change the route around. It might be a better idea to stick to the coast until you make it into where the map turns green, and then it might be a better Idea to drive across and go through Kenya and then move out through Tanzania into zambia then Zimbabwe then Botswana and into south africa.

I could be way off but thta seems like the safest route.

Hahaha, good angle!
But I'd go for the million, which is still a hundred times better.
Don't you like adventure?

With such quick thinking I'm sure you'd make it out of unexpected tough spots.

So long you aren't assaulted by militia or your vehicle isn't destroyed it wouldn't be a bad deal at all. I'd bring either my father or friend who are both very experienced at mechanical work. That would be the only problem I foresee that I may not be able to handle but someone I know could.

Yeah, I'd do that in a heartbeat. The suggested route from Cape Town to Tangier is:

14,460 km, 8 days 18 hours

That would be easy. I was born to road trip.

Be a fun adventure for me and a friend. I guess from the map and the loop it dodges all the shitty areas of africa.....i though they all were shitty apart from south africa. Id do it. Do i have to fight off zulu attacks?

Read that thread in the OP. It took those people two months to cross the Congo. The horrible roads meant they made about 20km a day.

If someone offered me the chance I'd take it, I like to think I'd probably make it. I'm a wreck compared to what I used to be, but this sounds quite doable with a little luck.

My biggest issue would be in whether or not I'd be permitted to bring certain needed medications with me. Even so I might be able to get by without them since their lack won't exactly kill me.

It doesn't dodge all the shitty areas, it's Google maps' fastest route. The part it dodges is a damn jungle. It just also happens to be really shitty...

I think the emotional scarring from the eminent danger from being in and around those dangerous countries like Sudan and Kenya, and seeing the pandemic of desperate and exorbitant poverty firsthand would only prove to me that I am the last person around there who needs $1 million.
