Poll: Would you fight for your country if it was invaded

I guess this is mostly for United States citizens since the world hates us but hell anyone can answer.

So lets say we were invaded by a fake nation, we'll call it anihc or in yahtzees universe "bermany" would you take up arms to fight off the invaders, stay neutral, or bow to your new leaders?

I think, despite how much this nation pisses me off sometimes, i would fight.

Depends on a variety of things.

Are we talking "oh no, Bermany has launched an assault on the coastline" or "holy shit, Anihc is firing missiles and dropping paratroopers all over the damn country" attacked?

If it's the first, I'd wait to see how it goes. 'Murica's bloated with a defense budget, so if it fails, then I'm definitely jumping ship of this hellhole.

If the latter, then all I'd do is defend what is mine and the immediate vicinity of it. Because god dammit, if any country is stupid enough to launch an invasion of America's heartland[footnote]You know, home of the hunting rifles, hand pistols, and shotguns[/footnote], then I'll be damn well intent on reminding them that taking on a public force that is immensely patriotic and has its own privately funded armory is about as tactical as detonating a nuclear warhead in your own fucking city.

All in all, nothing official with the military whatsoever. If they draft me, I'd sooner go to Mexico and take my chances with their shit than put up with that brainwashing machine.

There are only two countries that could conceivably 'invade' the United States: China and Russia.

And only in theory, as neither of them have anything to gain from invading the US.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. I live in Ireland, and we have local elections coming up. Even if the current parties in power lose it and are replaced, I don't have much more faith in one party to improve things than another. So if some country feels the need to invade by way of assistance, I'll have to consider their offer.

Depends on the situation. If my country has become a dictatorship and the invading army is on a mission to liberate us then I would help the invaders. But otherwise... I would probably fight a little at least. But I wouldn't sacrifice my life unless I could save other people's lives by doing so.

Internal conflicts are a little different and something like a civil war or violent uprising would have to be decided at a case-by-case basis.

actually, at present i'm pretty sure that, of those two, only China has the military power to do so. but, as you pointed out, neither have much, if anything, to gain. my answer was totally hypothetical, of course. i don't foresee anyone invading in my lifetime. but, then again, you never know what might change.
