So, I've been pondering an article about an internet where people MUST have their real name, like some countries may do already. This is for security reasons, specifically so trolls and criminals may be caught.
So what are your opinions?

No. Is what trolls even do punishable by law? I don't see what is illegal about annoying some people on a message board.

Erm...no.
While I do like the idea of banned people staying banned, I like the anonymity that is provided even more.
Besides, I kinda like when the geeks who use the internet for bad things are caught by the even bigger geeks on the side of what is right.
...if that makes sense.

Simply put, people are more self-aware of their actions and words when they don't have an anonymous name to hide behind. Look at Facebook, Using your real name means you have to watch your language, lest you tarnish your image to the world. Remember, this would end up being an global thing, not a country wide or local rule. If you post things you shouldn't, you're screwed. *cough* Employers and Colleges looking at peoples internet persona's *cough*

Pretty much ninja'd. I have a small problem letting people know my full name, but that is only when they ask and I trust them. There is no way I would have it right there
Damn Striaght.

Well, One part of my name is correct on my profile.

You just have to figure out which one! Oooooooh!

And even then I'm not telling. Unless as Commi said they ask and I trust them.

No. Actually, hell no. I LOVE my Internet Anonymity. If I get in an argument with some douche on this sight, I don't want him to be able to get my phone number and then find my house just because I have to use display my name. It doesn't matter what that person might do, just KNOWING is more than I want him to have. For all you people know, my is Flibbertigibbet, and that is the way I like it.

No way, Hell it's the internet! I can argue with a troll all I like, and just turn off the computer and walk away and it's all good!

Also, only one person voted yes...

You all act like if someone is going to use a Death Note against you guys. Keep in mind that some people here already have their full names in their profiles.

Then again, being forced to provide my full name on the internet would make me feel insecure, so yeah I'm gonna have to go with he majority here.

"Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither."- Benjamin Franklin. On this statement, I concur.
Saw that on either colbert or jon sturat last night. The civilization quote as well.

The only way to truly confirm someone is not through an IP address but a social security number. So we would have to put a social security number for everyone making it easier for hackers to gain access to that type of info. I don't think it would work but it would help to catch criminals if it didn't spread crime.
