It's that wonderful time of the year when the release of a game I've been waiting for for 12 years anxiously is about to arrive. My preorder's completely paid off, and all that remains is waiting the 9 horrendous days until it's release.

Anyway, I recently rewatched the Starcraft 2 television ad that's been seemingly popping up on every gaming site I go to now. (How odd?) I've always been a huge fan of deep storylines and of Blizzard's adeptitude to create AMAZING cinematics, and was wondering what I know a lot of people have thought of before.

Would you go see an official Starcraft Movie if it were made? What story arch would you want to be portrayed, and how would you like the movie to be seen? (In what perspective to the characters).

Well I'd see it even if it wasn't fantastic, just because I'm a huge fan. But it'd be amazing if it was done right.

Yes, because Starcraft is fucking awesome, and a movie about some thing that's fucking awesome will, at the very least, be semi awesome.
For me, at least.

I don't like game-based movies as well as movie based games. Andi don't think Starcraft could offer anything above the standard special effects fest to actually be interesting.
If i want to watch fancy computer generated effects i go to a CGI design site.

I know I would hate it, but I'd go see it nonetheless. I mean, aside from the awesome storyline, even if they somehow managed to butcher the story the special effects would likely be worth the movie-ticket by itself. psi-storm, yamato gun(a nuclear explosion shaped into a beam by a magnetic field), carriers, dark templars...actually the entire protoss race would probably look retty awesome. Hell, a showdown between Zeratul and the queen of blades would be more awesome than all the matrix fights put together.

Well I guess we'll just see how things work out with their Warcraft Movie that Blizzard is watching over right now... God save us all.

Yeah, of course the special effects would be awesome. If they somehow screwed those up, the movie would've had to been made in still frames in Microsoft Paint or something ridiculous. I'd really hope that it has a strong storyline, possibly a movie about the war between the Consulate and the Dark Templar would be amazing.

Not really interested in it either, just as with Mass Effect movie there were some rumors about. I like my games being games. I can imagine such movies pretty easily, quickly written plot with no real relevance to the game itself, cliche hero character, plenty of fancy computer animated swordfights/explosions/magics, short love sequence somewhere in the middle, final showdown with cliche catchphrase.

For me thats how majority of those films feels like starting with the StarWars prequels. Then again, i am apparently among the very few in the world that found LotR movie very generic, boring and nowhere near the book.

I don't need a 2 hour long production that just is an excuse for CGI showcase, there is plenty of good short CGI clips all over the internet i can watch made by people from simple boredom or just to show off their design skills.

You, good sir, are a genius. A protoss only movie is something I would watch even if it got crappy reviews, and I'd probably enjoy it even if the special effects were made in MS paint xD

I understand where you're coming from. I for one wasn't really interested in the LoTR books because I just couldn't muscle through them when I was reading for entertainment. Most movies made from videogames try and catch the Star Wars feel also, but in all honesty even if it was just another average video game movie I would still see it because I enjoy watching them for entertainment.

Oh, and speaking of CGI shorts,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s06Ua_EIQyo The best fan CGI I've ever seen done for Starcraft.

haha people would probably just claim it's another stupid SciFi movie if it flopped. Oh well, Korea would definitely enjoy it.
