It's the distant future, and we've finally completed the ability to create human-looking robots, commonly known as androids. These androids are not sentient, so don't worry about them killing you or enslaving humanity. However, several companies have drawn this technology to the hedonists in us, and created androids built specifically for sexual intercourse. They have realistic flesh, realistic breasts/abs/etc. and realistic genitals (and other orifices including anuses and mouths). To the naked eye, they look like a real human being, and likewise the sex feels like that of another human being. Also, for the sake of the argument, they are very affordable.

Also, if you have a significant other at the moment, in this scenario your S.O. has left you; either for another individual, you two fought too much, they died, or something that draws them away from this scenario. In this case, you're single and you haven't had sex in a long time (or for some of you out there, ever).

My question to the guys (and gals) of the Escapist, in this scenario, would you partake in purchasing or at the very least utilizing these robots, or would you always just stick to sexual intercourse with a real human being?

I see no reason why not. I'd probably just consider it another type of masturbating to be honest- only a rather more realistic one. Although if it became taboo to use sex androids I'd probably either stop or be very secretive about it.

I would assume (realistically speaking) these androids would be considered very taboo, as not only do they appear like real human beings, but we do have something similar in the market already (sex dolls, as Odgical stated. Although they're extremely expensive, and honestly downright creepy as hell O_O)

Right... well, I'm not into sex dolls, that's strike one. I'm not into prostitutes, that's strike two. And I'm not into using technology to make up for my short-comings in the whole getting a girlfriend thing, that's strike three.

Frankly, my dear, if buying a robot just for sex after getting dumped was my course of action I'd start questioning my own rationality. And buying one just for sex while being single, assuming they're cheap, would be, I don't know a bit uncreative. Bland, if you wish. Then again, not like real women aren't capable of being a complete bore in bed either.

Maybe. But I like having an emotional bond with someone that I'd take to bed. If that could be achieved with a robot, like with the Replicants in Blade Runner, then sure. But if they're just emotionless sexbots, then I think I'll pass.

For me it would be hard to say. If she was a cyborg, all robot body and a human brain like Motoko Kusanagi I would probably say yes, as a human mind would imply free will and one's own personality (though this is clearly debatable). Appearance wise the cyborg/robot would have to be almost indistinguishable from a real person, otherwise I think it would disturb me too much.
