I was thinking this the other day. If a successful pop star was to write (or at least sing) a song attacking you personally and it became a big hit...OTOH, yeah, you're being attacked in song and all.

OTOH, you are instantly famous, and you don't have to do anything.

(Of course, it this was popular, I'd expect to see people throwing stuff at singers and hoping to be immortalised because of it)

"Oh look, a talentless musician doesn't like me. Big deal."

That'd probably be my response.

If I got excessively hassled by people because of it, though, I might pursue legal action against the musician. I may also use the opportunity to tell everyone how messed up they are for following a pop musician so religiously and not actually being rational, understandable individuals.

This sort of already happened to me. Bad experience in middle school. The girl who did it wasn't famous in the real sense of the word, but she had more friends than I did. When you're twelve, that's all that matters.

I'm going to have to say I didn't care for it. To the point where I dispassionately considered several types of beating I might inflict on her, whether I could get away with it, etc. She has no idea how close she came to an unscheduled hospital stay and some very ugly scars.

If it happened today, with a real famous singer, I don't think I'd care. My appreciation for music is usually inversely proportional to its popularity. The more famous the singer was, the less it would matter. My only concern would be that I might acquire fame of my own. I am a private person. I dislike people in general, crowds, scrutiny, cameras, and personal questions.

Nah, I'd hate to be famous at all, in anyway, honestly. Just look at all this Miley Cyrus bullshit. You can't do anything that people disapprove of or you get blasted worldwide. Cameras fucking follow you everywhere you go. Every time you leave the house, every fucking part of you is critiqued, probably even how you tie your goddamned shoelaces. Nah man, being famous/a celebrity would be hell.

Clearly this individual is mad at me. So I would use this newfound fame to publicly laugh at and zing them. I think that would probably make them angrier.

If I get to pull royalties in excess of my current salary, I don't care if the ************ calls me a puppy rapist. If not, no.

I already have a song about how bad I am, it was performed by ZZ Top.

But seriously, I would absolutely hate to be famous for any reason, there being a song about me, or otherwise.

Having been bullied for over eleven years, and being eighteen that's a sizeable chunk, I would say

Nothing so far, but you, might be an idea.

Seriously, though, is there any good reason for all the hate she gets, or is she just the latest female celebrity it's cool to hate on?

I don't want to ever be famous, rich hell yes! Being famous gets you stalked and killed or a drug problem it seems. Being rich gets you cool toys and women or Men if you prefer.

Except not really. I'd send a "either pay up to use my likeness under the terms I agree to let you use it, or cease and desist" their way.

That's mislabeled. That's George Thorogood, not ZZ Top

No, I hate the idea of having any kind of fame whether it be through good or bad publicity. I want to happily live my life unbothered and unnoticed, thank you!

what if it was a real catching tune.

"your so vain"
and they'd totally be able to deny it was about you.
1. The OP specified a pop musician. I don't like pop music.

2. If it was personally attacking me in such a way that I became famous, then there is something in the song or something the pop star said about the song that indicates it was directed towards me, so denying it was about me would be really hard. I'm not famous to begin with, so it's not like an incredibly subtle attack they can deny was about me in the first place would ever be linked to me without them doing it for everyone else.
