I was thinking about a game I used to play as a kid. The old "Would you rather..." game where you propose options and you have to decide which you would opt for. Childish? Immature? Certainly, but always a source of heated debate.

There was one I could never answer, so I thought I'd ask you guys:

Would you rather...

a) Be tortured for 1,000 years in agonizing pain, and then die.

or

b) Live forever. No matter what happens to you you will not die, or get injured. You will not age. For the sake of consistency lets say your body will stay 25 forever. If you are older than 25 then you become 25 again. The Sun could explode and you'd just be flying through space, hoping to crash on another planet.

Oh, and I know this thread is pointless and inane and impossible but I suppose in a way the is the point.

Hmm thats a hard choice... Die after 1000 years of agony. Or live forever, and I think you are meaning that I can't feel pain...

Well... Thats... Hard?

Wow, that's a tough question. But I think I'm gonna go for live forever. 1000 years of torture just isn't the thing for me.

I chose immortality because I dont really want 1000 years of pain, and then suddenly die. But I guess there are some bad things to immortality, like you have to see all your friends and family die, and your the only one left. (P.S If the universe were to be destroyed, will you still exist?)

Hm, that is a toughie. I would have to go for the living forever. I don't think I'd be able to handle 1,000 years of torture. I know it would be tough living forever, but I'm sure I would find it better then 1,000 years of torture.

I'd choose immortality, and subjugate this world. I'd have my minions study interstellar travel in preparation for the destruction of this solar system; hopefully by the time that happens I'll have arranged alternate accomodation and time-wasting amusements elsewhere.

I would assume not seeing as he says the sun explodes and you'd just be flying through space. I'm loathe to suggest I'd prefer 1000 years of torture to eternal youth, however the idea of eternity scares the shit out of me, so I'm actually going to go for the agony thing. Of course I'd rather do neither, but that's just me.

I suppose if the universe were to end then yes, you'd die.

But you cannot kill yourself. You would end up alone forever. eternity.

Flying through space though, you would eventually find another planet with life on it. And you could live there as an ambassador to Earth.

Yeah but they aren't going to know. You could describe it as a Utopian paradise, and that you helped with brokering the peace.

Do you reincarnate after those 1000 years? because it's just not worth it being tortured for a millennium and then be gone forever, nothing else to it.
If not I'd rather live forever, which is the equivalent of torture anyway.

Torture of the SOUL [/emo]

Again, no. There is no way you can die.

No reincarnation. Pain, then death, then nothing.

Ok, immortality then. My unwillingness to bond with anyone too much makes it relatively easy to cope with loss I guess. Although, well... I don't know, hmmm.... yeah maybe I'll grieve over my friends of this generation but I'll get emotionally detached after that.

I'd want to live for ever, after a long enough period of time, you would forget who you were anyways so it wouldn't really matter to me.

Can you feel pain? And what happens if you just stop eating drinking?
I'm guessing you'd feel hungry/thirsty, but still wouldn't die.
Same goes for pain I guess. You'll feel it, but it has no physical repercussions whatsoever.
