It's been a definite trend in recent years that the world is coming closer together. As travel and communication increase in speed and efficiency, the barriers between nations and cultures are becoming more and more blurred. Countries can no longer stay in complete isolation, and what happens in one country now can have far reaching and drastic effects on the world as a whole. So the question is: do you think that the world is heading towards a single representative government for the planet as a whole? And more specifically, would you support it?

Just to be clear, this is more than just the existing United Nations, which acts as more of a diplomatic consul. This is if we had a true government for the planet, as in a global Congress and President that the people of the world elect, or if the elected leaders of the nations choose an Earth representative.

Personally I think that as space travel becomes more and more relevant the necessity of a true representing government of the planet will become more and more necessary in order to properly direct our expansion. It will probably result more from individual nations becoming increasingly obsolete than everyone just saying "Let's all join together", but the results the same.

Also, what do you think the flag, anthem, motto, and capital city of Earth would be? Personally I've always thought of New York City as the best choice, but that's just me.

As it stands: Hell no.

In the future: Hopefully. Before we can have one world government a lot of things have to change.

Yes, though only if significant autonomy was allowed to each former nation due to vastly different values between many parts of the world. Realistically it would be a long process stretching over a number of decades to slowly integrate everyone.

As for capital city, I'd like to say London but that's rather ethnocentric so I'll go with somewhere in Europe or Asia, since that's where the majority of the world's population lives. Maybe Luxenbourg since it's already it's own little state and it doesn't belong to any major power.

I would, at some point, way in the future. At the moment though, there is still too much cultural dissonance even among the few biggest nations for it to work. Baby steps are for now the best we can hope for. Besides, if we're going to have a global government is sure as shit shouldn't be based on the American model, we don't need or want a 'President of Earth'.

I don't know about flags/anthems. Those issues are of no real interest to me (Although is 'We Are The Champions' by Queen was Earth's national anthem I wouldn't complain), I think the capital city should be London though. I know it sounds bias coming from a Brit, but I think it makes sense. The city has played a key role in so many historical events, almost every major human civilisation has left its mark on it, it's hoe to one of the oldest examples of democratic government, it's location offers a perfect neutral ground between Europe/the Far East and the America's, and the whole world still sets their clocks based on GMT.
