some heads ups:
-currently, you are unarmed. you must pick a weapon to survive.
- you can't pick two guns.
- each gun has a fairly large amount of ammo beside it, don't worry about ammo.
-you have to say why you chose what you chose.
have fun with your new gun!

I would have to go with the Comabt Rifle. It's reliable and effective. Although I could go Bad Company 2 medic and take the LMG and just rain bullets for about 20 seconds then collapse after using all my energy using it :D

I'm not bad with a rifle and if it's of the same type that I'd expect, it'd come in handy at all ranges. Plus, given my belief that the world wouldn't go to hell immediately and everyone would arm up and raid everything, it'd be a really nice deterrent.

Wouldn't really know what the hell I was doing, but at least a combat rifle I can set to semi-auto and use to hunt.

Maybe a revolver, depending on just how bad I turn out to be, and how desperate (specifically, if things are really bad, I'd take the combat rifle). (There's a shooting next to the cache right? I might take the shotgun and Uzi for a spin to see if they work for me)

Minigun considering that ammo isn't an issue.

I paint with blood (and bullets).

If I don't have to worry about ammo, then the minigun, because...it's a minigun, they can cut trees in half so....yeah.

Only drawback would be the weight, I would probably get rather tired rather quickly

Combat Rifle. It's a pretty good all round weapon. Good range, good damage, robust, and if they get too close I can just twat them one with the butt of the rifle.

Realistically I would take a shotgun, because in real life a shotgun is much more effective than video games make it out to be, one shot in the direction of your enemy, or prey, and it's pretty much done for.
In a game I would take a combat rifle and headshot my way to whatever I need.

*raises hand* Is it assumed that I have weapon knowledge beyond knowing that pulling trigger = loud noise? But I'd go for shotgun anyways, since I believe effective range is far longer than in video games, and less aiming is required. I'd pick the minigun, but I need to carry that, even if I ignore the weight of the ammo.

I'd go rocket launcher, if there's infinite ammo...

Just because locked doors and annoying walls are suddenly no problem either.

Combat rifle is always my favorite in games, and since I got no real life experience with weapons I'll go with it.
Seems to work best for all purposes anyways.

In close combat, though, you'd be completely screwed.

Minigun. If I could carry it.
That's kinda the point though. If i don't have to worry about ammo could just shoot everything that moved so nothing would get close to me. Of course if if i had to care about ammo capacity then i'd go with something more practical. Probably a combat rifle. What surprises me is that there wasn't the option of a sniper rifle in that cache.

I'd take the shotgun, provided the ammo includes both shell and slugs. They are easy to use, probably easier to clean than a rifle or pistol, and they have a good deal of intimidation power (handy for scaring of pesky would-be-raiders and bandits).
Plus I'd take a combat knife as well. It's a knife, not a gun, so I'm not technically violating the 'one gun only' rule you established.

Thank you, I've now been saved explaining why I'd pick a rifle!

If I'm not worried about ammo (or magazines), and I'm familiar with the battle rifle that's laying there, I'd choose it. Accuracy at range, stopping power and ammunition capacity are important factors when choosing such a weapon, and modern military rifles tend to excel at all of the above.
That said, if the rifle is inaccurate, worn down, unreliable or whatnot, I'd go with the revolver. But I'll just assume the rifle is a decent model, in good shape, and has a fair number of magazines packaged with it.

Scenario: You're sleeping in a bed you found, when a noise wakes you. Someone with a knife is literally five feet away.

Rocket Launcher - you'd be stabbed, or have to run away, leaving it behind, in which case the sadist with the knife might pick it up and shoot you.

Minigun - kthxbai

Scenario: You get back to your safe house when you notice a couple of guys taking all your stuff.

Rocket Launcher - if you shoot them, you'd blow up your whole house. Thus defeating the point of keeping them from stealing your stuff.

Minigun - LEETLE BEBBIE MAN!
Did you have to ruin my fun by being right? >_>
Realistically i'd of course not get the Rocket Launcher if that's what you wanted to hear, but just for a thread like this it's just for imagination. I mean, sure i would "want" the rocket launcher, but for practical reasons i'd get something else. *Clap* Was that what you wanted to hear/see/read?

Chose combat rifle, seems like a good balance of range and damage capabilities.

Edit: Correction (seems I've been mislead), Uzi weighs 3.5kg, which is not really light, considering it is heavier than MP5,M4 or M16 (2-3.5kg depending on different versions and variations).

Edit 2: Unless we consider Mini-Uzi and Micro-Uzi which weigh 2.65kg and 2kg respectively (though they offer lower muzzle velocity which translates into lesser damage and lower accuracy, they do however offer higher rate of fire and are smaller in size).
Also there are Uzi pistols apparently but I doubt they are particularly good (comparing to the smg).
