This brings to mind the subject of "pre-adolescent dreams of omnipotence".

AKA: You can suddenly do anything you wish and pretty much nobody could stop you.

Good? Bad? Somewhere in between?

While the EU canon inevitably evolved different perceptions regarding The Force--often suggesting that there was naturally a grey area where The Force was concerned--George Lucas rebelled against the concept (largely brought to bear by KOTOR II: The Sith Lords) that there was ANY grey area: According to Lucas it was all or nothing.

Fair enough.

Still, one of the central points of the OT and the Prequels was that while the Old Order of Jedi believed that any emotion--such as love--automatically would lead to passion (which leads to jealousy, etc) Luke proved that love could serve as a source of strength.

I.E. Rather than adhering to the Old Order's strict compliance to asceticism Luke proved that positive emotions could serve a Light Side Jedi as well as hate and anger served the Sith.[footnote] Having pointed that out I don't believe that I'm the only one here who noticed that Darth Sidious was kicking Yoda's ass while laughing and whooping it up in the process.[/footnote]

1. What would you do if you suddenly became a "Force Adept" in the real world? With and/or without other FA's, of course.

2. How do you view the ascetic approach to the force versus the "balanced" emotional approach? I remember reading one of the EU novels where Jaina Solo managed to kill (assassinate) her twin brother who'd gone totally Sith PRIMARILY because her love for him fueled her with such strength with The Force that she was able to overcome him.

3. Just for kicks and giggles: Do you wonder if these very subjects will be addressed in the forthcoming Star Wars movies?

Option 5. I would use my power to secure my place as the ruler of the world, but I would rule benevolently. I think that would be grey, maybe dark by some standards.

I don't actually know that much about Star Wars, having only seen Episode 1. That whole "no emotions" thing sounds like it would suck, so screw that rule.

I'd go with whichever side promises to teach me force lightning, so probably dark side.

Sorry Jedi, but being able to lift things with your mind just isn't as cool as shooting lightning from your fingertips.

I can't even handle being a Sith in a video game (I feel too bad) so becoming a Sith Lord in real life is probably not in my future...

Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd go Light or Grey.

On one hand, I would love to be able to help people in need and do everything in my power to help enrich lives. African Warlords going all genocidy? The levy is about to break in Katrina? Terrorist mastermind has been captured and it sure would be nice if we could give him the ol' Jedi mind trick to tell us about 9/11 or the London Train bombings? Jedi Tippy2k2 is on the job!

On the other hand, I'd be worried about who is the good guy and who is the bad guy (yeah, this world is way too gray to know which team to play for; see Captain America for helpful reference) and I'm smart enough to know that I'm not smart enough to run things. There are going to be people who want to use me for nefarious purposes (or cut me open to figure out how to give everyone super powers) and that doesn't sound very good. Hell, just doing some good like stopping the Mexican Drug Cartel shit would be enough to get me on plenty of hit lists...

I'll be sure to come back into the thread once I get my Jedi powers to let everyone know what I decided.

Depends, do I get instant-mastery? Because i've gotta say, under those circumstances, I see things going evil in a hurry (What do you mean that paperwork needs completion by the end of day?! ***Sith Lightning!!!!***)

On the other hand, if all I can do at first is lift a few rocks with the knowledge that there are other way more powerful guys out there that could slap me down right away. That might teach me the value of humility.

Grey. I would absolutely use my command over The Force to free kittens from the tops of tall trees without asking for any kind of reward. On the other hand, I would also use my command of The Force to get chance back for a $50 when I only used a $5.

I'd have fun with it I think. What type of Force powers do I get? Because there are a lot of them, especially if we're talking about the Expanded Universe.

I think I'd like the so-called Danger Sense, as well as the ability to move objects with my mind. I'd lean heavily toward the Light Side, but I'd probably take Kyp's approach, or perhaps Jaina's. Being Light doesn't mean you waiting for things to happen, or that you don't fight back and always try to fight a peaceful solution. Sometimes, force is the only option. Sword of the Jedi isn't just a title after all.

Grey. The light side's teachings are way to strict. Not having children, not marrying, and a very strict hierarchy? Fuck that. I should dictate my own rules in life. I'd lean towards the light side idea of good, but in the end, I pass my own judgement. Sometimes a peaceful solution isn't the best, sometimes violence isn't the way either. I'd do what I consider right and live by my own code... I'd make one badass of a jedi.

It was a toughie between 5 and 6, but 6 makes more sense. Custodians should know their limitations. The Jedi's inaction led to the Galactic Civil War and the Sith...well, what needs to be said about the Sith?

Well at first I'd go completely mad with power, overthrow a few nations just for the hell of it & just do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.

I do think that eventually I'd settle into a nice dark grey area after setting myself up as lord & master of a little tropical island somewhere. Then it would be "just leave me alone & let me do my thing or mess with me & get severely fucked up".

Maybe I'd go mercenary & work for the highest bidder when I get bored. Even with potentially unlimited power all I want is a nice laid back lifestyle, with a little mayhem on the side.

Grey for me simply because I don't agree with some of the white side ethos, particularly in regard to emotions.

But honestly if I had powers of that nature in the real world I'd try to be as discreet as possible and use them mostly for selfish reasons, so it would appear I'm "extraordinarily" lucky more then anything.

So in a nutshell, you would place your morals ahead of others, and act as a demi-god of some sorts?
Yeah..
that's kind of like egoistic man, but hey, your choice. I mean, I'd never take you as a Jedi to be honest mate ^^

Light of course!
I mean, I feel like I'm not smart enough to pass judgement on others immediately and I believe in a sort of communal order. Sure, I'd act mostly on my conscience, but if I got the main-dude in front of me, who killed millions and enjoys the sadistic torture of puppies, you can be sure as heck I'd cut him down right there. I mean, I bet he already has the jury in his pocket, because of the big pockets he has. And you can be sure as heck he has money, cause he's evil and..

I'm getting off track here.

Yes, probably number three, cause I feel bad about not being able to help that one dude who got mugged (yeah, I tried, got stabbed) or the other dude who sits on that same street with an empty bottle on his and, asking for money.
You know, little deeds, just to change the world bit by bit and hope that others would share my super sweet Force-powers.
Good people of course, don't want no Sith Lords in my neighborhood, no sir.
Mainly the idea of "might is right" idea disgusts me, and I'd be kind of like a less dark-Batman of sorts. No killing nobody would be my first rule.
Except that one dude who tortures puppies. He's gotta go.

Well, I'd be grey. Light Side generally means that you have to suppress your emotions completely. Something which I don't think I could do. But I wouldn't go full on Evil or anything, though I would certainly use Force Lightning. My lightsaber would be blue. I really like that color for the blade.

Beyond that, I sort of think that the movies will have Luke trying to find a middle ground between the teachings of the Sith and Jedi. I'm cautiously optimistic about the movies at the moment, so here's hoping they are good.

So being a jedi on the highest high horse is better? What gives them the right to say what is right and wrong anymore than myself? They do nothing to help the needy, spending funds on their temple and lavish robes they can't even wear in combat. Good and evil is always subjective.

Got to go grey here. I don't have particularly strong emotions, but I wouldn't give up love for anything, and I'm not the sort who likes following orders from hierarchies. I'd use powers to do some good, but also use them for my own benefit and for laughs.

Option 6 for me. Some people deserve to be helped after all. Other people deserve to be force-lightning'd, so I wouldn't be light-side.

Light-side.

I don't think it conflicts with emotions, only with losing control of your emotions and letting them rule you.

I also think the 'grey side' is vastly more evil than the dark side, filled with people who consider themselves the ultimate authority of right and wrong as well as the type of people who write horrible mary-sue fanfiction, the latter being by far the greater crime. The only thing worse than keeping a cake all for yourself is trying to have your cake and eat it too, AKA the 'grey side'. At least the dark side is honest about what they are and what they want, to themselves that is.

Option 6, grey. I'd certainly use my powers for good, but I'm not an emotionless robot. Also there's certain people who deserve to die.

Option 6, Have you seen the body count in the star wars films? And that's even before we start on the expanded universe that may or may not still exist.
