When people ask me to choose "the lesser of two evils" I usually say "Neither," and give them the finger. In this instance however, I'll ask you to clench your fingers in your fists and answer which of these forms of government you would rather take place in? Which one is most appealing to your sensibilities?

If you've got another dystopia that appeals to you, put it in a comment or, if you'd rather just give these options the finger, leave that in a comment (the finger, I mean. I'm making a necklace).

If you aren't quite sure of some of these, some succinct definitions follow.

Anarchy - Absence of government
Authoritarianism - Authority of the state (Fascism, Dictatorship, Marshal Law, etc.)
Communism - The name says it all.
Feudalism - Warrior Nobility (Lords, Vassals, Fiefs, etc.)
Plutocracy - Rule by the wealthy
Theocracy - God rules (via the divine officials)
Timocracy - Ruled by property owners OR people of high social standing

Being a religious history scholar I "love" my evil Theocracy's, many of my own stories have at least some element of Totalitarian Theocracy in them.

Communism all the way; just so long as it stays pure and doesn't get all corrupt and what-have-you.

Anarchy I don't need a government to continually strangle me with all its ridiculous laws, taxes and invading my privacy.

Robot. That's probably...authortarianism, perhaps? With a mixed in dash of anarchy for all the looting that goes on.

I wouldn't call some of those types of government dystopic: Communism, for instance, is certainly not dystopic (as long as it sticks to what Marx wrote, and doesn't go all Stalin)

and, reaper, do remember that those taxes are used for funding public schools, the armed forces, and the salaries of the people who are trying, every day, to keep you safe and happy.

that's sort of why it doesn't work. if that didn't happen then it would be perfect.

I'd be all for authoritarianism as long as I got to be the dictator. But, since that's not likely to happen, Communism FTW!

Dystopia? Considering that it's the opposite of perfection, I'm going to go with Anarchy.
Yes, thank you for that correction. Spell check doesn't seem to recognize either "distopia" or "dystopia" as an actual word.

Pretty much this, for the same reasons, and maybe a few personal ones. So, Authoritarianism.

I wasn't actually correcting, but you're welcome all the same. I was just thinking out-type, because if I were in a dystopic situation Id prefer to make my own choices. All those other ones put someone in control of everyone else.

If I am in control, authoritarianism sounds best, but if I am not, anarchy all the way...at least then I can make an authoritarian society from it by bringing people under my rule.

Yes, but normally, when the squalor starts pool around your ankles and everything collapses, there's always some dick who rises up and takes control of the masses.

That's my job, of course.
And yes, you're correct, but we have to make a distinction here. Are we going with Anarchy as the scholars of the 1700's thought of it, or are we going with the V for Vendetta Anarchy?
I'm taking my VfV option.
